I don't know about the snorkeling and the water isn't "crystal clear"...but this beach is a veritable postcard of perfection in every other respect.
It's secluded, but you can still drive there.
It's not easily accessible from the buses, so its not crowded.
There is a singular small hotel with a bar, so there are facilities and food.
Its beautiful sandy horseshoe bay lined with palm trees and a few homes atop the neighboring hills.
The sand is a mixture of volcanic black sand with the light brown mixed together.
There's a little river running into the bay that adds some charm when you see some local animals drinking out of it.
Bottom-line: Its not the perfect beach for everyone, but its a great place to refresh, unplug, and relax without having to rough it. The scene is straight out of a postcard.

Loved this beach. There is also a restaurant, bar and rooms here. Beach is public. Nice soft sand, clear water, good and safe swimming. Nice to walk beach. On far end is a pond where birds can be seen. Unfortunately it is being destroyed. A hotel will be built there. Now they are bulldozing all the land and trees and plants around and will fill in pond-so these birds will be displaced. What a tragedy! Very, very sad! Not to mention the erosion and how this will affect the water quality of the beach.
I hope more of Grenada does not succumb to this.

A giant Sperm Whale filled the louvered windows of our high-ceilinged room, separating the warm Atlantic from the sheltered cove that sent gentle waves to La Sagesse Beach. The whale is actually a finger of wind-swept land, the clay-colored bottom eroded by current, both air and water, the top half streaked with foliage forever slanted diagonally from the relentless easterlies.
La Sagesse is a fantastic, affordable retreat on Grenada, and as my girlfriend Nancy and I discovered on our recent romantic holiday there, a perfect place to escape the stresses of everyday life.
The beachfront rooms are nicely decorated and local art hangs from the walls. There are no TV's or phones to interrupt the sounds of the the waves, just 30 feet or so outside your windows. The staff is incredibly friendly, which we treasure while on vacation. THe open air bar and restaurant, open from 8am til the last person strolls to their bungalow, serves delicious local food .The sponge-painted orange walls of the restaurant ,decorated with more local art , fit perfectly with the surroundings-a beautiful, secluded beach, sheltered from large waves, ringed with palm trees. Locals use the beach occasionally, which we liked since it contrasts with the mega-resorts where you never interact with the locals except to receive a drink or a meal from them.
Boney, who we thought of as the Ambassador to the island, has an arrangement with La Sagesse where he does tours of the island for guests. He also can pick you up/drop you off at the airport. He takes great pride in his work and is highly recommended to get a feel for Grenada, as well as to taste delicious fruit (particularly waterlemons) along the roads (he'll pull right over and pick some for you).
We can't praise this place enough- If you like mega-resorts, forget it-but if you love tranquility, exceptional hospitality, picture-perfect surroundings, and interaction with other cultures and people, this is the place for you. Families and solo travelers will be just as comfortable at La Sagesse as honeymooners -we met all of these kinds of vacationers while we were there.

Beware robbers operating on la sagesse beach. We were robbed of all our cash today by a man wearing a mask wielding a machete. He crept up on us commando style through the trees at the back of the beach and robbed us. This was in the middle of the day, only 200 yards from the beach hotel, and with other tourists walking on the beach. Afterwards the beach hotel were very helpful in looking after us with a drink and calling the police. Nonetheless, it was schocking to be robbed, with threat of violence, in so public a place in broad daylight. From what we learnt at the hotel and police station, there was a similar incident a month ago.

La Sagesse is PARADISE! My husband and I stayed at La Sagesse prior to boarding the Yankee Clipper. Both of us wish we could have continued to stay here for the remainder of our trip. The grounds are absolutely lovely,close to the beach. The staff friendly & very professional. The restaurant with the best food and terrific ambience. Our room was beautiful, I could have stayed here forever. We were fortunate to be able to travel around for several weeks in the Caribbean, and by far, this was our FAVORITE!!! We will be returning to La Sagesse, without a doubt! We are already looking at the calendar to see when we will be able to return. Thanks to everyone at La Sagesse for making this a very memorable stay.

A wonderful start to our Grenadan holiday, with a warm welcome from Boney at the airport and a phone call to the restaurant to be prepared to serve us dinner upon our late arrival.
Our first experience of the hotel was when it was at it's most peaceful, sun down and only the few hotel guests calmly chatting in the background within the open confines of the beach front restaurant. The sea gently lapped the shore but a few feet away and the lack of local area lighting, bar the soft tones from the hotel itself, gave an instant re-assurance that we had not chosen a "resort" hotel - far from it.
Our first day break greeted us with magnificent views from our beach front room - could we have got any closer to the sea without being built over it? After our first breakfast and first few hours touring the bay, we realised how special La Sagesse was. Beautiful peaceful surroundings and retained within an unspoilt landscape. From afar the hotel and restaurant hardly broke the cover of the lush greenery surrounding it.
Day after day we were met with fine food (even if the menu wasn't too extensive we were always fulfilled with freshness and taste) amazing hospitality and treated to an abundance of friendliness from ground staff and locals alike. We even witnessed a colourful and well practised Baptism within the waters of the bay on our first day! Even the owners dogs new how to look after us - on one occasion taking us on a long walk across the bays up the hills and along the ridge to see other local sights (and rum shops!). This friendliness extended itself to ALL the guests - despite many changes in faces during our stay, all managed a friendly smile, a warm hello and an exchange of interests and of experiences during their stay.
One thing to be aware of - this is one of the more remote hotels (though many outside of the main resorts are) so travel to other parts of the island is best pre-arranged, but this was never a problem for Boney or others recommended to us. We are glad we didn't have a rental car ourselves - what a waste that would have been as we preferred to stay in La Sagesse for most of our stay in Grenada.
Rest assured that if passing through Grenada again, La Sagesse will be top of our list of places to stay.

We arrived in Grenada via cruise ship and wanted to spend the day on a beach away from hoards of people. We decided to take the public bus for $7 per person return trip instead of paying $36 per person for a taxi. The bus terminal is a 10 min walk from the cruise port. You take the #2 bus; (which is actually a mini van). We waited for about 40 minutes for the van to get enough people before we left. There are no bus stops; you simply tell the conductor where you want to go. The trip took about 40 min. From the main road, you walk about a mile along a paved path to the beach where we rented lounge chairs for $4 per person. Make sure you bring water for your journey!
The cove is beautiful with very little development and a nice sand beach; we felt like we were in paradise! Only about 15 other people were there. Nothing much to do other than swim, walk the beach, and lounge.
There is a small restaurant on site that has a limited menu, good food but very pricey; $40 for one soup, one tuna salad, and 2 fruit juices. Service was very slow and unfriendly. I would recommend bringing your own food and beverages.
To catch the bus home, we stood at the roadside and signalled the first one we saw after waiting less than 5 min. The conductor made room for us even though there were already 18 people in the small, non air conditioned van. Reggae music was blasting from the speaker beneath our seat.
We would recommend spending the day at La Sagesse. Take the public bus if you want a true Grenadian experience!

We were exploring south east Grenada, looked on the map, saw La Sagesse and decided to take a drive. The road condition is good but it is winding. It took about 30 minutes to get there. You have to pay attention to find the sign since it is easy to miss and the access road doesn't look like its going anywhere. But have faith.
We discovered a lovely calm beach with a river. Its not an attraction or a nature centre but we could easily have spent the entire day there. Beach chairs are available for rent at 10 EC per chair. Some trees for shelter. There were very few other people on the beach. I read, my husband fished off the rocks. The chair guy cut a few coconuts for us. A perfect vacation day!
The hotel restaurant is on the beach with excellent food. We had a lunch of sesame seed encrusted tuna with vegetable rice, beet salad and wasabi sauce for 55EC each including a few beers. This is probably one of the best meals I have ever had. The tuna was perfectly done and the flavours were nicely balanced. Not something you would expect from a beach restaurant. When we walked in they were filleting the tuna on the side of the kitchen. It does not get any fresher than that.

I love this beach. A perfect cresent of pale sand rimmed with palm and seagrape trees. While not great for snorkeling, it is great for swimming and walking. The hotel is picturesque and hidden in the trees, so nothing takes away from the natural beauty of the bay. The restaurant was a little overpriced for us, it is nonetheless a lovely setting and has friendly staff.
That being said, I am dismayed to hear about the robbery of the previous reviewer. Such a violent robbery mid-day, I'm sure that ruined their whole experience of Grenada! On an island that exudes hospitality and friendliness, there are a few who want to ruin everything. I hope the police found him and did something about it! Grenada is such a small island that someone will know who did it. Just remember that the police in that parish (St. Davids) are not much better (do an internet search to find out why). BUT don't let this discourage you from visiting La Sagesse but remember there are horrible people anywhere in the world, even in Paradise!

We hit about 6 of Grenada's beaches during our 10 day stay and this was our favorite. Very few people so quite private. Nice strolling along large crescent beach. Waves big enough to body surf but easy to get past for a dip or a swim. Combination black/white sand, soft but not muddy. Boutique resort doesn't interfere with beach and adds amenity of a nice restaurant.

Beach!
We’ve been so many times and not seen a nature centre.
There is a salt pond area up the beach which I think is classed as a bird habitat area.
But there’s no real signs...
