Been here many times and always enjoy my stop. You get to pick 10 of what you want to taste of all their wines so everyone can be happy. Met the owner and her daughter and enjoyed chatting with them. Really laid back with lots...More
Decided to stop I'm so my wife could taste some wine and buy a few bottles to take back to Florida with us. Young lady was very friendly and knowledgeable abut all wines they had. My wife tried a few different ones and ended up...More
Friendly folks at Horton will tell you how this vineyard---is one of the first in Virginia to garner international awaards(Mr. Jefferson's vineyard was a total failure) with outstanding wines (served at both the Bush, Clinton, and Obama White House), inviting and welcoming tasting room, and...More
This winery is a good one to visit if you have people with different preferences. Good variety of dry and sweet wines. Their port wine is very good!! The only issue I have is I purchased 6 bottles of wine and still has to pay...More
Visited Horton today on the advise of a friend and was very happy we did. The gal that helped us was sweet, friendly and very knowledgeable. The Freedom wine is now my favorite wine and I don't think the case we purchased will last very...More
We were celebrating a 60th birthday and had 3 wineries booked. This was 2nd stop. Ashley set us up in an upstairs room where we sat as she talked about the wine and poured for us. This was pre arranged and she went out of...More
Our 'prearranged' senior bus group arrived at the winery on a dull, gray, rainy afternoon. The grounds were lovely and the vines under excellent care. Inside the very small tasting area it was dim and cramped. Most of our group opted for a paid tasting....More

I do not think there are any wineries I did not enjoy! The best, so far, were Horton, Barboursville. The first wine tour we did was the Bedford wine trail (best to do a "wine trail" by regions, as Peter stated above). They were small wineries, but fun. Actually, I think it has a lot to do with attitude. The Jefferson winery was great. We (my husband and I) saw a family there, they treated the kids well, as did the Peaks of Otter (fun, fruit wines, fun winery to visit, NOT fancy!).
As I said, so far, we have not been to a vineyard we did not enjoy!!!
