I was shocked to find Trip Advisor has High Bridge located in Green Bay, VA. Everything I read about the bridge including how to get there referred to Farmville. The Norfolk Southern Railroad donated 31 miles of their track to Virginia in 2006. In 2012 after the High Bridge was restored, the entire 31 miles of trail was opened to... More

Hop on the beginning of the trail in Burkeville and head west towards Rice, then on to Farmville where you can access High Bridge State Park. Crossing High Bridge is amazing, especially after learning the history of the bridge itself. The entire 3- mile trail is well worth the trip.

High Bridge Trail State Park is well maintained, beautiful and historical. When you visit, if you don't have a lot of time, use the Paradise entrance! When you enter via Paradise there is small parking fee ($3 I think). One of the best places to go (other than across the bridge) is under it. There are paths that are rough... More

Parked at Green Front right across from the Trail and rode my bike to and across the bridge, and back, about 5 miles each way. Plenty of places to stop and rest along the way, and an actual bathroom about 1 ½ miles from the bridge where the Trail crosses a highway. I had not ridden this far in many... More

I have ridden this trail three times now and enjoyed it each time. The path is crushed stone and plenty wide enough for two riding a bike abreast. The elevation is essentially flat, so appropriate for beginner bikers. We like to start in Farmville proper, bike the five miles to the bridge and then return. While the bridge has spectacular... Having visited Twin Lakes State Park earlier in the day, it was a short drive to have a look at part of High Bridge Trail. We parked at the River Road car parking lot and walked about a mile to stroll across the bridge. One could only marvel at this engineering masterpiece as well as its historical significance. Having walked... More

We started by visiting downtown Farmville and decided to drive to the state park parking area a few miles away. We hiked one mile to the bridge which was captivating. It is above the trees with some spectacular scenery. Not a venue to miss a must go to in your lifetime. Plus the history of the trail and bridge are... More

Walking on the treetops and endless views with little interruption from modernization in the landscape. Those are favorites. Biking and jogging this trail is a lot of fun.

We parked at (I'm assuming) one of the closest lots to the bridge itself. We walked about a mile from where we were parked to get to the bridge. A good amount of the walk is in the shade until you get to the bridge - once there you will definitely need sunscreen! The bridge itself is quite impressive and... More

Well worth the walk or bike ride to see this very impressive structure. First built in 1852 as a railroad bridge and rebuilt in the early 1900's it was, allegedly at the time, the longest and highest bridge in the world. It is 2400' feet long and 125' above the Appomattox river. We parked easily in Farmville and biked 4.5... More
