Overview
More
Bob and Linda Claymier are the owners of Desert Rose Ranch & Winery. They met as teenagers with Linda often visiting Bob where he grew up in the high desert country of eastern Oregon. Bob has been making wine for over 40 years and after an interesting career in the government (see R.E.D. from the wine list!) with much of it spent overseas in exotic locations and often dangerous assignments - they settled in Northern VA. Desert Rose Ranch & Winery was once a working cattle ranch (see Ole Moo Moo from the wine list!) and is still an operating horse operation which showcases several beautiful Arabian horses today. The winery opened in April of 2011 (April Fool's Day, of course!) and they are honored to be surrounded by some of the best vineyards and wineries in Virginia. Please come visit us and saddle up to the horseshoe tasting bar - we hope to see you 'round the ranch!

The scenery was wonderful. The wine selection was okay. Nothing spectacular. The owner is ex-CIA and the top of the tasting bar was full of foreign currency from where he has been. That was the best part!

We are surrounded by Northern Virginia Vineyards. When we get company we normally take them to several and desert rose is one of our favorite places to go. So many of the vineyards around here seem very commercial and put out a lot of hype....More

This place is great! The employees are super nice and friendly (especially Terri). I really enjoyed the wine and the atmosphere. They have a great Chardonnay and probably the best Norton I've ever had. I loved hearing all of the stories behind the winery and...More

This was a laid back winery with a good selection of wines. They play old westerns on the TV (but not loud or obnoxiously) and even had a deck of cards readily available. My group played cards and had a glass of wine. Very fun....More

A quick trip here after visiting Rappohanock Cellers turned up a quaint, quiet retreat of a winery. Prices are a bit more reasonable than other wineries close by, and while I only tried a chardonnay here, I was taken with the country feel of the...More
