When you're taking a drive in the VA/MD countryside, nothing better than to take the route via White's Ferry. The ferry ride is short, but fun. Do it when there's less traffic, or you can face a backup.

We rode the GAP trail and used the ferry to get to our hotel shuttle (Comfort Suites). It's cheap, quick and fun.

I know there is a small parking lot there. I would call them and ask. I agree, it would be a great place to park.
