Have visited the park often. It is good for camping, fishing, walking, horse riding, and kayaking. Their is no electricity or showers in the camp area and the swim area is ok but not great. Still the area is beautiful and the staff is very helpful. This place is a solid four out of five. It is a tremendous value.

Did about 10 miles total upriver & downriver from Shot Tower. What a nice rail trail! Plenty of history and things to see along the way. A very good riding surface. It has plenty of signage and access points and places to put in boats and campgrounds. I will need to come back with my family.

I visited this river and trail in 4 different places on a beautiful fall day. Looked for a place to fish, but anywhere you could wade had very low water level due to the drought. Took lots of pictures and the locals were all very friendly. Had a long chat with the cute game warden.

This is the Rails to Trails that runs from Galax Va. to Pulaski Va. which runs for 56 miles. Fabulous for Bikers of all levels. Do small segments or go for the distance. Many enjoy starting in the tiny town of Fries Va. We like the Trail Head from the center of Galax. Pick up some Trail Info. and Enjoy... More

This is a most beautiful area to enjoy a day or more with camping sites too . My daughter and I go up to ride the horses . Very reasonable pricing.. We also take our bikes to enjoy the well kept bike trail. They are picnic areas and a small village that has been restored . You can also canoe... More

Have wanted to ride this trail for years. It did not disappoint. Would rate this #2 just behind the Virginia Creeper Trail. Virginia fall foliage predictions for 2016 were off - probably will peak nearer the end of October. Rode from the southern end (Fries) to Foster Falls. Very peaceful and flat. Take water and snacks. No horses/riders on the... More

While roaming around with a friend of mine, we happened on New River Trail State Park and took a look around. There was not much activity or any campers there, but a walk by the river was beautiful. There were canoes piled up that I assume can be rented, an equestrian barn with horses that I assume can be rented,... More

So happy you stumbled upon New River Trail State Park. It is a 57 miles long rails to trails conversion so it sounds like you just found Foster Falls, one of the "hubs" of the park. Be sure to check out our website for more details. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. More

Spent 4 days at this park over Labor Day weekend with a large group. Campsites were close to the river and very spacious. The Millrace campground where we stayed was central to all park amenities. We were within walking distance of the kayak, tube and bicycle rental livery, as well as the horse stables, a camp store, and a gift... More

Relaxing 10 mile bike ride with lots to see! Be alert to horses, but a fun flat ride for all ages and skill level. We just did a small portion of the trail.

This is a great trail. Easy to walk, lots of options on where to start and stop. Well maintained. Pick a spot where you will meet lots of fellow hikers, or find a spot where you are the only hiker for many miles. I cant wait to come back with my bikes. The tunnels and bridges make this trail enjoyable... More
