I have been to Mount Vernon a number of times over the years, and it (the visitor experience) has changed quite a bit over time, both for better and for worse. There is a huge Visitor Center with an Educational section, which features extremely life-like statues of George Washington at different stages of his life. They are amazing. Our tour,... More

Lots of history. Def enough to fill a day. The grounds are just beautiful. The education center is awesome, and should be on the todo list. A number of options for eating. The INN was very good. And don't worry they have plenty of shops for gift shopping.

We visited Virginia for the first time to attend a wedding. We decided to stay for 8 days to see as much as we could...so GLAD we did. Mount Vernon was one of the many highlights. Studying this this period in our history was not particularly interesting to me in school, but touring this property was absolutely awe inspiring. You... More

Mount Vernon is a must see if you are visiting Washington, DC. There is more information about George Washiington than you could imagine here, which is a great thing. That information is told in a fun and engaging way. When you first arrive, you will be directed to a building that houses an overview. My advice is to spend a... More

This was a great stop and beautiful view of the Potomac river from the back of the mansion. Price was reasonable and they have military and veteran discounts. I wish the guided tour was more detailed and personable.

Well worth the visit. However we were not expecting so many children of All Ages. Field trips on a Thursday made the visit a little less peaceful. A few more attentive chaperones is suggested. But as for the once in a lifetime visit, it is highly moving and recommended

Mount Vernon is a wonderful experience, even if you're not a big history buff. The mansion has been preserved to look as much as possible as it did when Washington was alive. One of the tour guides told us that if George and Martha Washington were to walk into the room where we were standing, they'd recognize everything they saw!... More

A visit to this mansion and grounds is impressive. The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association is to be commended for their preservation and ongoing research to verify authenticity of this national treasure overlooking the Potomac. The grounds are very nice. You can expect to do a lot of walking. Walk from the orientation center (see the introductory movie there) to the... More

If you are interested in history, you will love this spot. There is really something for everyone. You begin your day with a movie all about the area and the history. You then go on to tour the house George Washington and his family lived in. If you go in December you are allowed to go up to the third... More
