The lake is a magical place - full of history, wildlife, birds, plants, trees and LOTS of water. One of The largest fresh water lakes in Central and South America, it feels like the ocean once you have traveled beyond the islands closest to shore. You'll see a mix of luxurious vacation homes owned by Nicaraguan elite and other islands... More

Had an amazing guide take us out to see the islets and abundance of nature. Had a private island to drink and eat at halfway through the trip. Don't miss this opportunity to see the beauty of Nicaragua

Remnants from a massive explosion, the islets of Granada are full of life. Leaving Calle Calzada headed toward Lake Nicaragua the road ends at the water. Turn right and follow the road along the lake, under the mango trees to the launch site for islet tours. Ample parking. The boats are small long motor boats with canopy covers. Smooth waters... We actually did this trip in October 2012...... Thr boat trip was awesome with a great local guide. There's such a variety of islands with some small ones and some large ones, some uninhabited and others with grand homes.... There's even one with a variety of monkeys. I highly recommend this as a great way to spend a day in... More

Taking a chance on the sales pitch of a bicycling tout in the pedestrian-only Calle La Calzada, we took a taxi to the start-off point. Which in itself was a touristic trek. With only the four of us in the motor boat, the tour had its obligatory highlights. Apart from the isla de los monos (Monkey Island) with a few... More

Loved our local guide Elia who wiggled with Vlad. Great team! We saw many islands, had a refreshing drink at our guides' home! Loved the monkeys. They were definitely a highlight.

We took a guided kayak trip through the islets. We took a motor boat from the mainland to a private island where we started kayaking. We saw birds, bats, and watched locals fishing with nets. The kayaking is pretty easy. The entire trip was about 3 hours including receiving a lemonade when we made it back to the island. There... More

I did a boat tour in the Islets. It was alright but nothing impressive. There are so many beautiful sights in Nicaragua, this is not one of the best ones. Maybe kayaking would have been a better way to visit the Islets...
