We were interested in seeing the area. One of the two persons who treated us upon entry, was very gruff. We asked a few questions about the attraction and one of the neighboring battlefields. The explanation we were given definitely had attitude. We were so put off that we turned around and did not stay to view the museum. We... More

The story of the "kids" from VMI fighting here is a strong story. Excellent museum and video. Being a history "buff" I jumped into this place head first and declared it one of the highlights of out trip! Watch the ladies at the farm house cook as they did back then and make you hungry ...... sadly they can not... More

Found this Gem next to I-81. What a great visit. Couldn't stop reading all the artifacts and information. This is a private collection of items from almost every era in human life. There is a lot of emphasis on the Civil War, as the Museum is located on the New Market Battlefield. It was impressive the amount of Civil War... More

I have heard of the New Market Museum for awhile now and, passing through Virginia, had to make the stop. I was not at all disappointed. The museum is amazing. It is not large but is so comprehensive you can easily spend a day there. The exhibits are very carefully and skillfully created and positioned so that one is provided... More

July 2015, My wife and I were passing through the small town of New Market, Virginia and decided to take a tour of the Civil War Museum, Battlefield and the small plantation home structures. The weather was hot and the Museum air conditioning system was very comfortable. The museum has a quantity of audio visual aides, short movies, Civil War... More

On our vacation to the mountains of Virginia we stumbled on this museum. At first glance it looked like a southern plantation home with some books and other things in the entrance room. Once inside the museum we walked corridors filled with all kinds of war things. The museum spanned the owners lifetime and then some. He has spent the... More

I've never before seen such a complete and unbiased presentation of Civil War, not only as it pertained to New Market but to all the states inveigled. And they pay tribute to the other wars America has fought in also. We spent several hours in there and still felt like we could have stayed longer.

A great way to spend some time inside and learn about the military history of this country - more than just the Civil war. This place sits up on a hill just past the Day's Inn and is a separate business from the Virginia Civil War Museum further on up the road. There is fee and it is well worth... More
