We visited primarily to see the turret of the Monitor that they have. It was still submerged for preservation, but it so interesting to learn so much about the ship. The IMAX Theatre is very nice for a rainy day, and the kids loved it. Even the 8 yr old granddaughter enjoyed seeing the model ships and learning about the... More

Really had a good time, fantastic displays and exhibits inside. Food is a bit pricy especially for the quality.. a definite must go when there is a band out on the lawn with all the food trucks bring some chairs and sit under the trees. Yes there will be wine and beer 😉.

The place is huge, so give yourself a full day. We were allured by the Monitor. Not only can you see the Monitor's turret, but there is also a "replica" giving you a better idea of its size and function. After buying our tickets, we were welcomed by one of the docents who gave us an overview of the museum.... More

Outstanding museum if you like maritime subjects. It has an excellent Civil War USS Monitor and CSA Virginia exhibit. Heck, all the exhibits are great. Charlotte's Restaurant serves extraordinarily excellent food, although service is a bit slow since they make food in front of you. It is worth the wait!

We stopped here because it was a rainy day and it would be indoors. We stayed to see the Monitor's turret and learn more about that event. At first the kids thought we were going to "just another boring history museum"; they became engaged and LOVED the 3D Galapogos Movie. Looking at all of the boats and models kept them... More

We are not museum people but we were captivated by the dramatic and eye catching displays. Educational, fun and interesting. We spent five hours walking through, learning and being mesmerized by what we saw. Films, artifacts, movies, audio, all sorts of techniques are used to teach the history of boats.

The ship model collection alone is worth the visit. To see the tools they used to construct such amazing sailing vessels back in the day. True craftsmen who's arts I hope we never lose.

I grew up in the area, and I have to admit I had never been to the Mariner's Museum until this year. Honestly, it just never sounded like it would be all that interesting. Man was I wrong! If you love the water and all that goes with it, if you love Civil War history, if you love history in... More

A great place to visit and we could have spent much more time there than we had available. Miniature boats, models galore, with history to fill every one's curiosity. Add the Monitor Museum and the day is full.
