"Wow" at every turn

One of the most scenic places imaginable. Some twists and turns driving from Pinhao to Sabrosa, but one feels impelled to stop and gape at the terraced vineyards frequently.

Lovely vineyards and the country side just surrounds the Douro River.

We had a full day tour from Porto and the drive and the scenery was just spectacular. We had lunch in Pinhao and toured two lovely vineyards. The weather was sensational as we enjoyed the boat tour on the Douro.

I plan on taking the train from Porto to Pocinho, instead of Pinhao, because I heard that the section from Pinhao to Pocinho has the best scenery. Have you taken the train all the way to Pocinho, and if so, would you recommend that? I am also wondering if, for the full fare, we can hop off at Pinhao, and get back on the next train to Pocinho. Your ideas and advices would be very much appreciated!! Have a great day.

I would strongly recommend that you take the train as proposed. You should have no difficulty in breaking your journey. The scenery is well worth the trouble you are taking. There is so much to see and do. Enjoy!

We plan to visit the Douro in April. From Pinhao we would like to self hike into the vineyard areas for a few days. Does any one know if it is possible to hike off the beaten track here, follow designated walking trails between villages in the immediate area?

We were picked up by a Viator tour guide in Porto and driven to Douro Valley so I can't help with the hiking either. This tour was one of the highlights of our Portugal trip.
