One of the most scenic places imaginable. Some twists and turns driving from Pinhao to Sabrosa, but one feels impelled to stop and gape at the terraced vineyards frequently.
We had four days here. A few suggestions: port making tour and tasting at Croft’s (we walked there from our hotel on the water); river boat tour; drive to Quinta Nova for their degustation menu lunch with paired wines and then walk it off on...More
We had heard many good things about the river from friends and travel experts. From our experience being here, none of them do it justice! This is a really great area for tourism in an incredibly beautiful, historic, and special area of the world. We...More
We had a full day tour from Porto and the drive and the scenery was just spectacular. We had lunch in Pinhao and toured two lovely vineyards. The weather was sensational as we enjoyed the boat tour on the Douro.
We had a blast. Our guide, I think her name was Sarah, picked us up at hotel. There were 8 of us in the van. BTW, they had WiFi. It was a beautiful ride to valley. We visited two wineries and had an amazing lunch...More
We thought of taking the scenic road along the valley but our hotel suggested it was better to catch the local train to Pinhao. Good move. Relaxing and very beautiful scenery. We were already half way along the valley from Porto so the journey was...More
Porto is a city with a personality. The WoW tour is complete. All in one day! In the center, the magic of the Lello bookstore, the architecture of the Clérigos tower, the characteristic streets, the houses by the river Douro. The view of the Morro's...More
The views, the people, the food and the overall vibe are absolutely top notch.
The combination of the river with the breathtaking views of the vineyards are unique.
We were met at the Hotel Regua Douro by Francisco, drove to his hometown (Ervedosa do Douro, Viseu, Portugal) and a high overlook of the Douro Valley. We then hiked 9 Km through the rolling hills and vineyards to the Douro river where we boarded...More
A place in the world which is so beautiful and should be in the bucket list of any serious traveller. The autumn colours were stunning. The visit to the Symington estate is unforgettable. Martha was our guide. Knowledgeable and polite. So fortunate to learn all...More
I would strongly recommend that you take the train as proposed. You should have no difficulty in breaking your journey. The scenery is well worth the trouble you are taking. There is so much to see and do. Enjoy!
We were picked up by a Viator tour guide in Porto and driven to Douro Valley so I can't help with the hiking either. This tour was one of the highlights of our Portugal trip.
