Fado in Chiado is a live Fado show – an excellent way to discover culture...

Fado in Chiado is a live Fado show – an excellent way to discover culture and the city.Fado is Portuguese and was born in Lisbon. It was adopted by Portuguese culture and is now a symbol of Portugal, with a strong tradition in the historic districts of Lisbon. The hour-long Fado in Chiado show features talented artists – a singer and two musicians (Portuguese guitar and classical guitar) – performing Fado and the music that makes it the national song. The live performances are accompanied by images of unique must-visit locations in Lisbon. It is said that Fado combines nostalgia (saudade), Portuguese pride, hope and conformism in a musical style epitomised by Amália Rodrigues. On account of these unique characteristics, Fado has now been declared part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.Fado in Chiado takes place daily* in the very centre of Lisbon. The hour-long show is the ideal suggestion for seeing live Fado and then taking advantage of the night to discover more of the city.

Really, don't bother. It's the first one of the many port houses after you cross over from Porto old town.

I was on a guided tour about port wine making and afterwards we heard a live Fado concert performed at Cálem wine cellars in Porto and enjoyed the tastes of a white and a special reserve port wine served during the performance. The performers were fantastic.

The worst fado experience I could have ever imagined. Total loss of money for the "fado" concert which resembles a rural wedding party rather than a real sentimental fado music show. Guitar players are great but vocalists might be a bit better. Next time I'm in Portugal I'm ready to spend even 80€ in order to avoid this tourist trap... More

Really enjoyed the Tour through the caves - the Guide, Serge, was enthusiastic telling about history, production of Porto wine and how to taste the wine. White Porto was quite nice. Also the fado Show after was great! Recommend!

I visited in February and we walked in around midday without an appointment and only had to wait about 10 minutes for a tour in English (port tour only, no Fado). Tickets were a very reasonable £6 per person and included a tasting of two ports (which were delicious!). The guide was knowledgeable and the tour was interesting. I would... More

It was a good experience. I visited twice and it's worth a visit. Good activity to do in Porto. Interesting information about wine making and you get to taste 2 types of wine at the end. Fantastic to have wine tasting together with the Fado playing.

Because we were there in the low season, we were lucky enough to be alone with the tour guide who was amazing when explaining the Porto production process. Very interesting and worth-while. You could tell the gentleman was passionate about what he was explaining.
