Fado in Chiado is a live Fado show – an excellent way to discover culture...

Fado in Chiado is a live Fado show – an excellent way to discover culture and the city.Fado is Portuguese and was born in Lisbon. It was adopted by Portuguese culture and is now a symbol of Portugal, with a strong tradition in the historic districts of Lisbon. The hour-long Fado in Chiado show features talented artists – a singer and two musicians (Portuguese guitar and classical guitar) – performing Fado and the music that makes it the national song. The live performances are accompanied by images of unique must-visit locations in Lisbon. It is said that Fado combines nostalgia (saudade), Portuguese pride, hope and conformism in a musical style epitomised by Amália Rodrigues. On account of these unique characteristics, Fado has now been declared part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.Fado in Chiado takes place daily* in the very centre of Lisbon. The hour-long show is the ideal suggestion for seeing live Fado and then taking advantage of the night to discover more of the city.

It was a good experience. I visited twice and it's worth a visit. Good activity to do in Porto. Interesting information about wine making and you get to taste 2 types of wine at the end. Fantastic to have wine tasting together with the Fado playing.

Because we were there in the low season, we were lucky enough to be alone with the tour guide who was amazing when explaining the Porto production process. Very interesting and worth-while. You could tell the gentleman was passionate about what he was explaining.

We went there in the evening at 6 when they have a tour with fado show. The ticket was 17€ per person. You start with a wine cellar tour. The guide introduces the wine of the company and also gives information about which wine should be drunk with which kind of food etc. When the introduction ends, you pass to... More

The tour at Caves Calem is a must! Apart from teaching us loads about Port wine, our tour guide was a great fun. The caves are beautiful and the wine tasting session is great for you to actually learn (and try) different kinds of Port wine. Plus, you can the wine bottles for a cheaper price too!

For those that have already been on tasting tours / cellar tours (as we had) the cellar tour was fine, although nothing new. The Fado show, on the other hand - was amazing. Very talented musicians, and wonderful singers. Calem cellars made for a very intimate setting, and made the show that much more enjoyable and personal. I highly recommend.

I was very fortunate to attend the vist to Calem Caves Vinyard and listen to one hour concert of a nice Fado music. The Caves are very interesting for visitors to see the giant barrels of Porto brand wines and listen to the history of wine production in Portugal. Calem was awarded several times with the diplomas for its wines.... More

Having experienced quite a few, practically identical, port tasting tours in our time at Porto we were looking for something slightly different. The opportunity to experience traditional Portuguese Fado while trying Calem port wines was a great way to add variety. We decided to skip the tour and opted for the port tasting and Fado only and we weren't disappointed.... More

There are numerous port houses offering tasting in Gaia. Calem provides an informative tour followed by a forty-five minute fado show while tasting a coupe excellent port selections. The music and acoustics were excellent. Other tastings paled in comparison to this package.
