Kopke is a smaller lodge compared with most in Gaia but it pairs the tasting of ports with chocolate! They have a wide variety of tasting options and we chose to each try a different flight of 5. All were good with the single vintage...More

There are no guide tours but when you select the wines you want to taste, the staff gives you a good explanation of each one. Don't need more than that, especially after already doing a tour in another house where they explain the history. The...More

Nice rooms, efficient and no-nonsense staff will effectively deal with your requests. Good prices. If you stay on the top floor, it's easy to feel a little bit forgotten. Nice place though, with great view of the city and a good selection.

We tried the LBV 2012 Ruby and the Reserva Tawny with black and milk chocolate in a very nice room for 6,70€. They waitress explained the characteristics of both ports and possible blendings. Very good place and service.

Here Port tastings are only possible as part of pairiings with chocolate. This was really very well done and was one of the 2 best wineries (out of 7 we visited in 5 days). The staff were very helpful & informatiive. Lovely surroundings on the...More

We had a drink at the terrace, the Porto was alright, but the service was honestly rude. When we arrived at the placed, no one seated us, so we went to a table and set down. Apparently, this table was reserved, which we didn't see. The...More

We had a flight of Douro white & red wines and port. We liked the whites best. On the second floor by ourselves, it would have been nice to have more than the one minute interaction with service staff. While pleasant to be alone, it...More

This oldest Port producer has a great tasting location. We chose our tastings on the entry level and then we were escorted up to the first floor where we selected a table with a view over the river. Our selection of Ports arrived with a...More

It's the oldest Port Wine House (1638). You don't find a cellar tour overhere, no guides. It's a shop and upstairs you have the tasting rooms. The staff is very helpfull and friendly. They assist you with the tasting (and the matching chocolate). Very good...More

Three friends and I did the wine tasting, and it was great. The wines came with chocolates and the server explained the pairings. It has a wonderful view of the river, try to get a seat by the window!

Hello from Peter and Valmai Kopke in Western Australia! We are thinking of visiting Portugal in the next year or two and we would, of course, like to visit the Casa Kopke vineyard. Would you please let us know exactly where you are and also make suggestions as to where / places / towns / areas we should stay during our visit? We have been thinking of doing a river cruise and have received a brochure but we want to make sure that we can visit Casa Kopke! Our grandson has just made a most beautifully crafted timber box at school for ornamental presentation of his father's bottle of Kopke port! My husband's grandfather was Frederick Herman Kopke who came out to South Australia from Hamburg in the late 1800's. He later travelled to Western Australia to drill for water and ended up buying a pastoral property (nearly 300,000 acres) 700 miles north of Perth on the coast south of Carnarvon. His son, Alan Frederick Herman Kopke bought the adjoining statio and his grandson, Peter Alan Frederick Kopke, remained there all his working life. We look forward to hearing from you. Also Vila de Gaia does have numerous other Port tasting rooms. Kopke is one of the first on the small strip which includes street vendors...while tasting, you are across the river with views of the city of Porto itself. As... More
