The tower of El Salvador was built in the early XIVth century. The central section resembles the Almohad minarets' placement of a tower inside another tower. The inner rooms display information about Mudéjar Architecture. On 28 November 1986 UNESCO declared the whole Teruel mudéjar complex a World Heritage site, due to its exceptional and universal value. Its primary function is still that of a bell tower. It has been open to visitors since its last restoration in 1993.

This is one of the numerous towers designed to defend the city in times past. For a small charge the ascent of the tower offers a good deal of historical information, exercise and ultimately terrific views of the old town and the surrounding countryside. An...More

Torre de San Salvador was at the back of hotel. We passed through this on the way to the main tourist square in the old part of the town.

Climbing up the hundred and fifty-odd steps is well worth the effort (reward yourself with jamon and wine accordingly). The views are fantastic.

For 2.50 you can climb the stairs to the top of the tower which has far reaching views. There are stopping off points on each floor telling you the history of the tower within a tower.

The Torre El Salvador made our visit to Teruel. Apologies to the famous "amantes" - the star crossed lovers buried in the San Pedro church! But for anyone in search of "mudejar" art El Salvador is a gem. (Mudejar refers to moorish style architecture and...More
