So we came here last year with our one year old and a group of Mummy friends and although the Easter Egg hunt was a bit chaotic the overall experience was great. We decided to go again today, with our now 2 year old, and 1 week old baby. On arrival we were disappointed to find out we were not... More

I had visited some years ago, but then a couple of years back decided to do a Practical Gardening Course, so I could work on my own back garden. Good decision and the gardens themselves are wonderful to walk about it if you are a nature and garden lover

Capel Manor is a specialist college offering courses for those interested in careers involving plants, animals and the environment, and this range of interests is reflected in its 30 acres of garden — open to the public for a modest fee. It is a great place to visit if looking for inspiration for revamping your own garden. There are show... More

I don't normally leave bad reviews but I felt I had to on this occasion! I visited with the wife and baby a week back and felt so disappointed that both myself and wife seemed stunned that the place was in such a tip! We arrived in reception and were given a site map and told where the baby changing... More

This is such a surprise given feedback we receive and all the comments from others who visited over the week before, the weekend of and the weekend after your visit. I think one of the challenges for us is that we are NOT a dedicated visitor attraction, we are a college that is open to the public. The experience will... More

Garden is attached to Capel Manor Horticultural College. Different types of gardens. Sometimes in Chelsea Flower Show. Ponds where dragonflies can be seen. Shop and cafe. Gets especially busy on themed events such as Classic Cars.

Hi Thanks for this and we are so pleased you enjoyed the event last year. The organizers have moved the 2017 event to a larger field adjacent to Abridge village hall, we will miss them but wish them every success as the event just gets bigger and better. Best Wishes Steve Dowbiggin Principal More

We visit the gardens every year at Christmas and it's always lovely. The kids love exploring the different gardens and the little maze. They make a real effort at Christmas, getting to visit Santa in the big house is pretty special. Decent food and drinks available, staff are incredibly friendly, lovely local treat.

This is a treasure of a place and is perfect for a relaxing stroll or just a rest as it takes you away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lifestyles. Good for individuals, couples or families. The setting is so attractive with a range of plants and flowers displayed in different types of gardens. The entry cost is... More

Hi thanks for this review. Autumn is always a difficult time. As soon as we tidy up leaves they drop of again and also we are working around gardens and putting them to bed for the Winter. I thought the winter colour was exceptional this year! Hope you pop by in the Spring as we are planting another 20,000 bulbs... More

Hi Paul,

I am the principal at Capel Manor college and we were very concerned with and upset about your comments posted on trip advisor. As you can see we generally attract very good comments and your comments are quite at variance with others visiting at the same time.

I am not sure if you realise that we are a charity and we rely on income from visitors to help us offer education and training to over 2,000 students.

as I am sure you are aware any garden is a living thing and as such has moods and periods when it is being prepared or revitalised.

As it happens I am puzzled by some of your comments. For exam[le there is no record of the Japanese garden being closed since its refurbishment was completed several weeks ago so I would be interested in when you visited and why you thought it was closed (the senior gardener on duty on Sunday 5th and other staff are quite clear that the Japanese garden was open on that day.

There is a programme for dead heading roses where appropriate and we are following this. Also some ramblers climbers and rugosa's are deliberately left as they produce hips which are ornamental in the autumn.

A lot of he gardens are sponsored and also won medals at Chelsea. Your comment re clashing colours is subjective and personal and one of the things we pride ourselves on is our diversity and the fact that everyone seems to find something they like when they visit. We are also surprised about your comment that the gardens are repetitive as this is the exact opposite to the normal comments.

Also we have just experienced a heat wave and that has put strain on the gardens.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to comment and would be happy to meet you sometime to explain more about what we are doing and what we hope to achieve.

best wishes
