Been doing the prom at Gravesend for years. Let's just say it has a special place in my partner and mines hearts. Been down to the waterfront so many times over time and going to the new tavern fort both above and below ground was very interesting. The chaps that volunteer there and friendly, informative and clearly very proud of... More

Love visiting the prom/ new fort tavern especially when the underground bunker is open which tends to be when the regatta is on. The area is open, clean with nice flowers planted while its steeped with history and you can get close to some of the old guns. Ok cafe and two play areas

After a nice walk along the river front from the Tilbury/Gravesend Ferry, spent a nice afternoon in the New Tavern Fort and Gardens visiting 2 museums, a great afternoon.

Being rather local to the fort its nice to walk out the door some weekends and find a event going on, its well worth a visit if you have a weekend spare. I highly recommend exploring the bunker and the old style shoppe when its open to the public, the fort is very interesting part of Gravesend history and I... More

As a child we always used to go to the prom, the gardens where always so well kept and the place was a family treat. However now this is more like a hang out for people to bunk school, sit in corners drinking super strength beer and just seems an unsafe place. The magic has gone as its more of... More

A nice park with lots to entertain children and adults. The park cafe is a wonderful place to rest with a sandwich and a cup of tea and the children can run around safe and sound. The shipping can be watched from the park area and there is a lake for fishing too.

Gravesend's history as a port and fort is long, and dates back to the fourteenth century; the New Tavern Fort incorporates elements of the town's past in a series of interesting displays and in a fine reconstructure of parts of the fort. It is also a great park, and lying as it does by the Thames, offers a particularly fine... More

The last weekend in September can always be a bit of a hit and miss affair weather wise. However, the Saturday was set fair, although cloud moved over mid afternoon. The Forties at the Fort event was well attended, lot's of stalls, many dressed in civilian clothing of the era, and a good number of military displays and re-enactors dressed... More
