Fantastic trip… We went out with Cecil & his grandson Ethan. Unfortunately we didn’t’ see any whales but the history lesson we got was phenomenal. Cecil told us everything about the area and the scenery was spectacular. My wife and I highly recommend when your in Twillingate you don’t miss going out on a boat tour with Cecil, you won’t be disappointed.

The tour itself was quite exciting for us as neither I nor my wife had ever gone out in a small boat in any waters, let alone the Atlantic Ocean.
We didn't see any whales in the basic tour as described in the brochure. But captain Stockley - who has a long career running such tours - had been in touch with another boat. When he learned about whales in another location, he extended the tour to enable us to view two types of whale.
It was very considerate of him as it was our first ever sighting of one of these amazing creatures.
Also, the crewman, whose name I don't remember, took time to share with us examples of fishing tools that had come down to him from his grandfather. His pride in this demonstration was clear. It gave us a strong insight into Newfoundland's heritage.
The dock where we boarded had a very appealing craft / gift shop
I highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Twillingate.

A boat tour to get close to icebergs is an experience that should not be missed, and we found that Iceberg Man Boat Tour was an excellent experience. We visited when the icebergs were easily visible from the shore, but the Captain took us further out to get closer to larger bergs. We were a little early for whales (last day of June), as their food had not yet appeared in mass, but we were lucky enough to be right next to an iceberg when it split and a large chunk fell into the see. As bits floated by, the first mate, a wonderful story teller and native to the area, netted some bits that we could hold. Imagine holding large, transparent pieces of ice that are several thousand years old! The tour gave us plenty of opportunity to snap pictures as the boat circled the large iceberg several times, and when we all had enough, we went closer to shore and circled another iceberg, this one with an arch that had collapsed a day or two before.
We did the morning tour, and there were only about 10 of us on the boat. Be sure to take a good rain jacket and if you have them, pants and waterproof shoes. But don't worry if you do not have all of this gear. We had only the gore-tex jackets, and we were dry enough. It is typical to have rain in this part of the world. If you forget anything essential, there is a very nice, if a bit expensive, shop connected to the tour that sells jackets, etc.
Although we were wet and a bit chilly, I am very glad we took this tour. The captain and first mate really know a lot about icebergs, fishing in the area, the economy and industry of Twillingate, and where to get a good beer. This was the highlight of our time there.

Cecil is incredibly knowledgeable and the boat is the perfect size. Maximum 20 on the tour and that is nice and intimate. We saw so many whales, birds and beautiful landscapes.

There are a few different tour companies in Twillingate offering a similar experience, and I'm glad I went with Iceberg Man tours. Cecil is the owner/operator, and I had read comments about his >30 years experience and interesting personality and stories about the business and the town. Turns out I wasn't misled - he goes above and beyond to offer the best tour that he can and even tries to remember passenger names. He is upfront about weather and chances of success - I knew that icebergs were around, but whales were sparse this time of year. We had a great time and would recommend it to anyone.

We were lucky enough to be in Twillingate the weekend of June 6-7th, 2015, and were even luckier to participate in an iceberg tour by Iceberg Man Tours. Cecile and his wife Eleanor were warm and welcoming hosts. Their enthusiasm and genuine desire to make our tour the best experience possible was extra-ordinary. It is not hard to see why this family business is still booming after 30 years. The owners and their helper, Dillon, went out of their way to answer our questions and show us the sights, including magnificent icebergs and nesting bald eagles. Add this tour to your bucket list now.

we found the name cecil stockley in moon treavel guide and we called the iceberg mantours inquiring about iceberg tours. we were answered that the available sail for us departs at 4 pm, we were told the price and then asked about the chance of icebergs and the man answering the call said that the chances are very good to watch the icebergs. we registered and then drove more than a hundred km on foul roads, happily reaching the place. with the fair in our hands ready to pay, a young girl in the office told us "no icebergs today". we could not utter a word so furious we were. i asked her about our call and first she said we did not ask about icebergs (how could she know that when she did not take the call?) and then said we were answeed by a trainee he did not know how to do his job. we asked to see the owner and reluctantly she told us where he was. he apologised and begged us not to write about it. we travel a lot and write a lot almost always positively, but we were never treated this way with such irresponsible attitude. we strongly recommend to check and double check before booking for this company.

Thank you for taking the time to review our business, and we apologize for the experience you have had.
In our honest opinion, we believe that this incident was a misunderstanding to the fullest extent. Here at Twillingate Island Boat Tours, we regard our knowledge, credibility and integrity as our most important values. We know how much it means for travelers to be able to see the icebergs when they come to Newfoundland. If there are no icebergs in the Twillingate area, we make sure that customers know. In fact, we are in constant contact with the Visitor Information Centers and different tourism businesses in Newfoundland to find out exactly where the icebergs are, so that we may direct customers to where they would be able to successfully see the icebergs.
That day was actually the young man's first day on the job. He took the call while under supervision, and after the call ended he remarked that there was a particularly large language barrier during the conversation. We feel that it was this language barrier that resulted in this misunderstanding. Since this incident, we have encouraged him to assertively ask questions when he has difficulty due to a language barrier.
In no way would we ever mislead customers to come visit us under the pretenses that there were icebergs in the area if this was untrue; we value our customers and want them to have the best experience during not only their time in Twillingate, but Newfoundland as a whole. To reiterate, we would absolutely never compromise our integrity or the trust of our customers; as a family business, these are our very strongest values.
In almost 30 years of operating this family business, this is the first time an incident like this has occurred. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused you during your time in Newfoundland.

Loved the boat tour given by the iceberg man -- Excellent knowledge of area and beautiful tours. Did this tour with my Aunt and Grandma, and was excellent.
Whenever in the area, always one-stop Gift shop for souvenirs for friends in Ontario. Many boat times as well, and Cecil always knows where to go to see whales. I suspect this is because he had the first boat tour in the area.
Afterwards, saw the show next door at Cameron Hall; Shipwreck of the Begonia, a comedy based on a true story out of Twillingate.
Enjoyed every minute (of show & boat tour), do not miss this! :)

We took the morning tour with Iceberg Man Tours in late June. They let us know when we arrived that there would be no icebergs, just a coastal wildlife tour. (Not sure if we had the option to cancel at that point or not but I guess it's good to set expectations either way!) It was quite foggy which made for any interesting experience. We saw a minke whale named, lots of puffins flying (which apparently you don't see in the area as much in nice weather), murres, a common tern, cormorants and some gannets on the rocks drying their feathers. A bald eagle and it’s nest was unexpected and neat. The staff were great, providing good commentary on the wildlife and the history of the area. I liked the boat which was small but not too small. Overall it was a bit of a disappointment compared to our expectations but was still an enjoyable trip. We had better luck with more wildlife on a tour in Witless Bay, but if you want to be sure of seeing icebergs you probably need to come earlier in the season. I feel like they did a good job with what Mother Nature was offering up today.

Foggy day, wasn’t sure we would see an iceberg through it. Long trip to the mammoth iceberg. The fog cleared and we witnessed nature’s beauty.💜 Well worth the trip!!! Captain Cecil & crew are great. Very informative when we could see something. More to see on the return trip as the fog had thinned. Would definitely go with this company again

When is the best time of year to see icebergs? Is it possible to see icebergs and whales during the same time?
Written February 9, 2019
Peak iceberg season is May and June but they can overlap with whales that arrive later. Check out Newfoundland Iceberg Reports on Facebook in season for current icebergs. Iceberg Alley App is free and ta kes reports for both. Look at tour boat fb page images to see dates of trips with both bergs and whales.

Hello, we are interested in seeing the following highlights:
The Spout (a wave driven geyser), icebergs, lighthouses, cliffs, sea stacks, Berryhead Arch, cliffs, whales, waterfalls. Would you be able give me a quote for 4 people?
Thanks,
Cathy

We are travelling to teillingate in July and should be there from 19-20. Will we see icebergs?
Written June 16, 2017
It is really difficult to predict the amount of time these icebergs will be passing Iceberg Alley.
As of June 18th there are plenty of icebergs to see in the harbours and main waterways.
Maybe you will be lucky and a few more will be passing by.

We are traveling in June 17. I do get motion sickness in a car would gravol be a good idea before we go on the tour. I have gone on dinner boat cruises and I have gone snorkeling in Hawaii but the waters were pretty calm though. I know that water and weather is unpredictable but I'm asking in general. thank you.
Written March 12, 2017
I also get motion sickness but not on this trip. I am not sure why. He is a careful driver, and there is much to see. There is cold air in your face. The boat is not a catamaran. I would not worry, but if you think it would help, a non-drowsy Dramamine might be all you need.

We will be traveling in Sept/ Oct ... Is there any time we wouldn't be able to see icebergs ? Is this a year around thing- can't wait
Written July 12, 2016
There is a site that tracks icebergs via satellite or ambassadors called icebergfinder.
So you could probably make an informed decision before you take a boat tour to see icebergs.

Hi. Is there a time of day for the tour that would be best to take good photos? Ie. Better in later afternoon when the sun not so bright? Opinions please.

All times are good from our experience. We were out once in the morning and once in the afternoon and they were both good.

Iceberg tour with Iceberg Man tour boat is excellent. You might be too early for dinner theatres but Twillingate museums are community run so will probably be open. One in Twillingate and another in Durrell. Visit Little Harbour and see the model boats built by Otto Young. Lots of lovely drives and communities to see. Hike or view it from the car. Lobster or other seafood meal at Samsone and Sons Lobster pool in Hillgrade. Daytrip, but I recommend an overnight trip, to Fogo Island. Running out of time yet? It's a lovely area.
