About
As a long time fisherman and licenced tour boat operator, Capt. Dave is well equipped to give you an unforgettable experience on the water. Whether to experience the majestic icebergs as they make their way south; catch a cod ; help Capt. Dave haul his lobster pots, or see the giant humpbacks breach as they feed on schools of caplin, Capt. Dave has the knowledge and experience to make your trip an adventure to treasure for years to come. As a certified tour boat captain, David specializes in small group, personalized tours to view the magnificent icebergs that often frequent the main tickle just off from his fishing interpretation centre, Prime Berth. In addition to iceberg tours, David will take you to explore the rugged coastline of Main Tickle, and view the thousands of nesting birds on the Baccy Islands, on your way to Gut Tickle and through the Salt Hr. Canal to the picturesque fishing village of Herring Neck. Your view of the fishing stages from the water will be a highlight of your Newfoundland & Twillingate vacation. In addition David can take you to the little fishing village of Tizzard's Harbour, his hometown, where he has set his lobster trap since the age of six. From May to October you could also fish for cod during your tour!!!

We had a fabulous boat ride today with Captain Dave! There was 6 adults in our our group and he took us out on a private boat ride. He took us cod fishing and we all caught a fish! Is was sooo awesome. Captain Dave was very entertaining with lots of great stories and full of knowledge. He went above and beyond. Highly recommend this tour. They also have different buildings to go in and look at….lots of pictures, artifacts! Take the time to go through these!

Captain Dave's boat tour was amazing! We travelled further than Dave had been before with guests searching for cod. It was definitely worth the adventure. We caught some cod and cooked it for dinner that night. We were also lucky enough to see a whale and porpoises. He was very knowledgable, friendly and had many stories to share. Thanks for a fantastic time!

A fantastic experience whale watching and cod fishing early August 2022. Dave is a very friendly and knowlegeable captain. In the Twillingate area "he is the man" to hire.

Captain Dave and Ry were an absolute blast! My family and I went on a boat tour, and had a fantastic time! We saw two whales that really put on a show for us! Dave and Ry were very friendly and made the experience very enjoyable. Just a real good time! We would definitely recommend and would do this again the next time we’re back!

We loved our tour with Captain Dave! He was such an entertaining and knowledgeable tour boat operator. He gave us an incredible tour of the area, pulling up some of his lobster traps to see the lobster he had caught, viewing an eagle nest with momma and baby in the nest, and touring us through the small fishing village where he grew up. It was too early in the season to see whales but Captain Dave more than made up for it with his stories about growing up and fishing on the island. A very personable and enjoyable experience. So glad we included it in our visit to Newfoundland.

I would not recommend this tour. The captain was rude and we felt that he really wanted to get home and be done. Our trip was short and we idled around the bay for while before seeing the iceberg. It was very small but there was a large one near Change islands which later we found out the other tour companies were visiting. I guess it was too much gas to burn for our captain. He took us to a restaurant on the water and we idled at the dock for 10 minutes for no apparent reason. This boring boat ride cost us $300 and we were not happy at all.

We did an Iceberg tour yesterday with Captain Dave and we couldn’t have been happier. Dave paid attention to safety which was reassuring to us. We were not rushed. We were able to take pictures from many different angles and Captain Dave offered to take photos of us. We didn’t have as warm clothes as we should have and his team made sure we were looked after by offering flap caps and gloves. Much appreciated. Would highly recommend Dave to take you on a tour.

We went out on a 10 a.m. iceberg trip over to Merritt's Harbour where the only iceberg was hanging out. We drove around it a few times, went into the harbour to see a smaller chunk and to view the two large icebergs farther out from the harbour. Beautiful is not a sufficient description!!! On our way out of the harbour the iceberg began cracking.....we hung out around it and watched as a large chunk broke freeze into the bay! Amazing, breathtaking, once in a lifetime!!!!! Captain Dave gave us a great tour and his commentary along the way made us laugh throughout the trip. Highly recommend Captain Dave's tours. Also...his wife, who runs the gift shop, is a such a lovely person too.
