About
As a long time fisherman and licenced tour boat operator, Capt. Dave is well equipped to give you an unforgettable experience on the water. Whether to experience the majestic icebergs as they make their way south; catch a cod ; help Capt. Dave haul his lobster pots, or see the giant humpbacks breach as they feed on schools of caplin, Capt. Dave has the knowledge and experience to make your trip an adventure to treasure for years to come. As a certified tour boat captain, David specializes in small group, personalized tours to view the magnificent icebergs that often frequent the main tickle just off from his fishing interpretation centre, Prime Berth. In addition to iceberg tours, David will take you to explore the rugged coastline of Main Tickle, and view the thousands of nesting birds on the Baccy Islands, on your way to Gut Tickle and through the Salt Hr. Canal to the picturesque fishing village of Herring Neck. Your view of the fishing stages from the water will be a highlight of your Newfoundland & Twillingate vacation. In addition David can take you to the little fishing village of Tizzard's Harbour, his hometown, where he has set his lobster trap since the age of six. From May to October you could also fish for cod during your tour!!!

Such a wonderful experience! Captain Dave & his lovely wife helped us dress up for our excursion & away we went. Weather was cloudy/overcast which made for great photos. Captain Dave is quite the character & his passion is evident. He brought us to one of his fishing spots & showed us how to use a jig. Everyone caught fish! Again & again!
This was the last week of Sept when many places are closed due to the tourist season being over. Just call ! It's laid back here & the schedule is not set in stone. It all depends on the weather so don't bother calling a month in advance. Tours are still available for the next couple of months as long as mother nature cooperates! This was an experience we won't forget!

We were recommended by a local to Capt. Dave’s boat tours and can say we had an amazing time. From the point of entering the boating museum, being met with a warm greeting, seeing the real whale skeleton and heading out on the water, it was a fun day for all. Do yourself a favour and keep the cod the you catch, the filleting can be done on site and take home for dinner - you won’t taste a better fish dinner. Dave and his first mate Ray are filled with stories and they know the spots for the cod - we were pulling them in within minutes. A fun day for all, and take the time to have a look through the museum - a fun day for all.

Captain Dave made my birthday a perfect day. The only boat ride that would let our dog join us, we caught and kissed some cods and saw a few birds. Didn’t see whales or icebergs, however Dave honest and he told us ahead of time the likelihood would be very small to spot them at this time of year. Nevertheless it was a gorgeous day for a boat ride!

I LOVE Capt Dave. He is funny and kind and genuine. The day we went out there were no icebergs and the whales were elusive (saw two). However, it was still a fun trip. We got a tour of the beautiful coastline, pulled up lobster traps, fed an eagle, met some local fisherman, and got a history of the area that you could never have learned from a book. His boat holds about 14 people so you get a very personalized experience.

I found the Prime Berth Museum to be fascinating. Filled with fishing relics, stories, and iceberg photos. You can't miss it... it's the one with the real whale skeleton above it!

I’m so glad we did this trip. All 12 of us caught cod, my first time fishing. We watched as the fish was cleaned and cut into filets, which we could take home. Captain Dave’s knowledge of fishing and the area was amazing, he was very personable, funny as well, and obviously loves what he’s doing as a business and the environment, which he truly is passionate about.

I would not recommend this tour. The captain was rude and we felt that he really wanted to get home and be done. Our trip was short and we idled around the bay for while before seeing the iceberg. It was very small but there was a large one near Change islands which later we found out the other tour companies were visiting. I guess it was too much gas to burn for our captain. He took us to a restaurant on the water and we idled at the dock for 10 minutes for no apparent reason. This boring boat ride cost us $300 and we were not happy at all.

Cap’n Dave is the real deal! For an authentic iceberg experience he is your guy for sure. Small boat experience with big personality. Cap’n Dave is full of stories, jokes and tales and his museum is filled with history and gift shop well appointed.

Captain Dave is the best! Great tour on his 12 seater, with Captain Dave showing us all his favourite places and bergs. Not to mention jigging for cod and pulling up lobster trap with live lobsters! We got to come up along side the bergs and feel 10,000 yr old ice bergs.
The tour was to be one hour, but Captain Dave can get carried away with showing all the sites, which we of coarse didn’t mind one bit!
The museum was a wonderful treat as well with many great pictures and history of family business since early 1900’s.
Highly recommend this tour!

We loved our tour with Captain Dave! He was such an entertaining and knowledgeable tour boat operator. He gave us an incredible tour of the area, pulling up some of his lobster traps to see the lobster he had caught, viewing an eagle nest with momma and baby in the nest, and touring us through the small fishing village where he grew up. It was too early in the season to see whales but Captain Dave more than made up for it with his stories about growing up and fishing on the island. A very personable and enjoyable experience. So glad we included it in our visit to Newfoundland.

Very much enjoyed our your with captain Dave. If you’re looking for a more intimate, customized tour, this is for you. The highlight for our kids was fishing. These each caught a fish within minutes. We also enjoyed hearing captain Dave’s stories of growing up in the area. You can tell that he does these tours because he enjoys it and it shows.
