Probably the place with a highest chance to meet KIWI!

We stayed here for our last night in New Zealand and definitely for a great reason - to see a kiwi! The hosts were so welcoming and helpful, they even provided red filters to cover our torches and explained in details how to observe the kiwis. So at midnight we started our mission, in complete silence and extreme attention we... More

I spent a morning here looking for birds. Beautiful site surrounded by water. Also looked like a great place to camp.

Awesome tour at dusk and the guide spent quite a lot of time and care tracking the kiwis down for us. We went from 9pm to 11pm and saw the two kiwis emerge from their nest, and then tracked one through the middle of the island. Totally amazing experience, and well run, if not a little laid-back - but hey,... More

I went here for some birdwatching whilst staying with friends in nearby Kerikeri. It is really worth a visit, with various different habitats, and birds in abundance. The people who work here are very friendly and helpful, pointing me in the direction of where I might find the birds I was after. The reserve itself is not massive, so you... More

We camped here, and what a good choice! Great facilities, with gascookers and seating undercover, microwave, waterboiler, fridge and water available. Showers cost 1$ for 5minutes. You can walk around the island with mangroves and a small beach. At night go out and spot the kiwi that live on the island, really exciting! Just a wonderfully relaxing place to stay,... More

This is how life should be loved it. Looking for Kiwi is something every New Zealander should do. I don't know if I want to write this review as it felt like I had discovered a real New Zealand treasure.

This place is lovely and peaceful and showing New Zealand's scenery in its natural environment. Very welcoming guides and full of information, their passion for the place was very evident. Would be a lovely place to stay in a motorhome,

The walk around the island is very peaceful and it is interesting to see where the kiwi have been foraging for food

Aroha Island has become an incredible place to visit, whether for a walk, a swim, or an overnight visit! You just have to book ahead for a guided Kiwi walk--the opportunity to see a Kiwi in the wild is amazing! The folks are very helpful, the information centre is great--will worth a visit!

We would recommend a visit to the island (now firmly joined to the mainland by a concrete section of road) during daylight hours as it is a beautiful 25 minute walk around the reserve and a good chance to familiarise yourself with the tracks and terrain. Then return at night for a guided tour ($40 pp) that goes for at... More
