The church & grounds are a beautiful example of history in preservation. As funding allows, I would like to see some of the grave markers & headstones be cleaned restored.

Starting from home off of Bennett's Pasture Road in Suffolk, St Luke's was our third stop on a very eventful day with our grandchildren/their mother. We started at the Mariner's Museum in Newport News, ate lunch in Hampton, searching for the perfect "CUPCAKE" of our dreams in Hampton, then off to have them experience a little bit of "Church" history... My husband an I visited Historic St. Luke's for a lecture about the church during the Revolutionary War. It was a fantastic experience and the tour given of the church later that day (as apart of their free admission week) was absolutely wonderful. The church, gift shop, etc. were charming and fun. We will definitely be back! Great job on... More

The knowledgeable docent provides a very detailed tour of the church architecture and history. We learned a lot. The gift shop has many neat items. Of note: different types of nativity scenes and ornaments.

My friends and I went to St. Luke's this morning. We learned a great deal about the history of the church and America. I heard a point of view about the importance of religion and freedom I had never thought of before. the tour guide was quite spell binding and really brought history to life.

We didn't really know what to expect when we arrived, but we knew we would be seeing a very old church, which is usually pretty interesting. We were really impessed by the extremely informative tour led by John, who clearly has been studying the history of the area, of Virginia, and of the U.S. for many years. He was a... More

Wonderful tour. Not overwhelming. This is the oldest church building in Virginia. Our tour guide, Rachel, is very knowledgeable and eager to show and tell all the interesting stories about the church, its furnishings, the restorations, etc. Wonderful to see where Virginians worshipped so long ago. A great way to spend a morning or afternoon. And Smithfield, VA, nearby, is... More

We thought this would be a quick in and out look at a historic site. What we got was an in depth tour and history lesson about the church and its founders. We learned a lot and although the tour was a bit longer than expected, it was enjoyable. Look for discount brochures around town. We didn't see them ahead... More
