Great, low key beer!

Awesome place! It’s right across the parking lot from Copper Fox Distillery (also a must visit) and has a superb selection of beer. Very tasty and very friendly atmosphere. They have a great patio too if the weather is nice. Very affordable too!

The 3 brothers make some very tasty brews!
May 2019
Down by the banks of the Thornton river, 3 brothers (Lain, Van and Jennings Carney) are making some really unique beers and draughts using wood-fired brewing and a BIG copper-lined "coolship". The atmosphere is always relaxed and casual, and they are now hosting a Farmer's Market on Saturdays. Great place to grab a beer and sit on the deck or in the brewery or down by the river. Try the Floored Nelson - it won't disappoint.

Great Local Brew
Jan. 2019 • Friends
This is a nice place to get a beer or two. The owners are local to the area, but have traveled enough to understand beer and flavor. Nothing fancy about the very casual setting which adds to the flavor. You will probably end up sitting with strangers at one of the long tables. The best part is they will not be strangers for long. Something about the place breeds harmony. They don't serve food (why the 4 stars) but often there is a food truck in the lot selling quality offerings. Sperryville is growing into a destination and this place is part of that growth.

Really Unique Outstanding. In my view the best Belgian beer outside Belgium - it is that good
Nov. 2018 • Friends
Jennings, Lane, and their brothers at Pen Druid are incredible. The wild yeast lambics, sours, and Belgian beers are truly outstanding. Having lived in Belgium I feel I know my Belgian beer, and nothing else I have sampled in the US comes even close. Jennings is a genius. I expect this small place to become more and more famous. Deservedly so. A tip - buy their beers in the corked 750ml bottles to take home; lay them down and drink them later - but only with people you really like. Bravo. These brothers are pursuing a trade that they love and it shows.

Great brewery and Whiskey next door!
Oct. 2018 • Couples
Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Pen Druid. Family in the area treated us to a sampling of the 5 they had on tap. All were pleasing and unique. They keep it simple. But, they do need to get some food in there to keep you longer. We will be back next time we are visiting Chester Gap family.

A family brewery

Meeting the brothers, learning how they harvest their wild yeast and the inspirations that go into their beers was an experience not too miss. Their offerings are also not to be missed.

Somewhat rundown look, unique beer offerings
May 2018 • Couples
Simple setting with different/non-standard beer offerings with wild yeast. If you want to have a couple of beers and hang out, can be a good visit. If you want food or a more varied offering of entertainment, best to pair with antique store and cooper fox distillery next door.

Prohibition is over!
Jul. 2018 • Couples
I love craft beers... But Life is to short to settle and prohibition is over -- I was excited to try a new brewery experience -- There was only a small selection of craft beers incl: IPA, IPA Sour type and A Dark Sour... The Dark beer was a practical joke, it looked like a beautiful Stout, tasted like a Stout gone wrong. We settled on the Honey Blonde but just couldn’t finish it.

Service was good and friendly, but I’m really not in to just IPA’s and Sour Beers... don’t recommend unless you like IPA’s and Sour Beers.

Good beer but low selection
Jul. 2017 • Friends
On my recent trip to Virginia I stopped in to 7 different breweries. They had a rather small selection of only 4 beers. I'm not sure if this was normal or if we just had bad timing since it looked like there board had at least 6 spots. I will say though the 1 beer I tried, the Golden Swan, was very good. My uncle enjoyed the 2 IPA's he tried too. The other thing I found weird was that they sold full size growlers but wouldn't fill them that day. I did not ask why because that day I honestly just wanted the empty growler for my collection. I did see them selling smaller jugs so you could still take their beer home with you. I wasn't overly impressed but the important thing was that their small selection was still good beer so I'd be willing to return next time we're in VA.
