A beautiful little walk through nature in the very location that rock was taken in order to build the Washington Monument. How cool is that?! However, it is a short walk of about a mile. Some of the path may be slightly uneven, but overall,...More

This is a very historic area with many things to see. This site has been used for hundreds of years as a sandstone quarry. The stone removed from here has been used at a number of Washington, DC buildings and monuments. I would say that...More

A great place to take a quiet and scenic walk. Lots of history with info signs throughout the trails. There’s a small rock quarry where stone was taken to build the White House and other historical buildings.

Its a nice little walk with interesting history. But there isn’t anything too special about it. It’s kept in good condition.

We took the grandchildren to Government Island to walk in the woods and see nature. There are plenty of trails to walk and all kinds of wildlife. A great place to see animals, read postings on the history of the island, and enjoy the outdoors.

This "island" is quite the beautiful and serene spot to go for a walk as well as learn a little history. It is a nature preserve as well as the historic site of a quarry used to build homes and buildings in the area, including...More
