Our museum contains a collection of items from the Seaboard Airline Railroad, the Virginian Railway, the Norfolk and Western Railroad, and the Atlantic and Danville Railroad. Items include bells from steam locomotives, a light from a steam locomotive tender, cast iron and concrete signs, railroad lanterns, railroad tools, as well as a nice collection of smaller items. The Station is a Queen Anne style building reminiscent of the Victorian age. It has an interesting tower with a beautiful, walnut, spiral staircase. Many original features were saved and restored such as the doors, windows, coffered ceiling, fireplace and porch. The most special part of the building is the HO scale model of Suffolk, circa 1907, that was built by the Tidewater Division of the National Model Railroad Association. Two of the scratch built model buildings won first place in the National Competition for that group. There is more than a mile of electrical wiring underneath the model and the line depicted is the Suffolk and Carolina RR.

This is a quint little railroad station of the past. The person in attendance was very helpful and informative of the history and culture of the Railroad Station. I enjoyed the model railroad display of the town of Suffolk and the historic items on display throughout the museum. I even to the steps to the tower to view the city.... More

This restored 1885 train station tells the history of the Seaboard & Roanoke RR and displays RR artifacts from days gone by. Preschool kids love the play area inside. Kids and adults of all ages marvel at the extensive and detailed model RR display of Suffolk, circa 1905. Plan to spend about an hour here. There is no fee, but... More

Visited with Grandson and his family. The kids loved this place. They have trains setup and an entire city. This was a nice little stop for the kids and my wife and I as well. If you love history you have to stop here.

While visiting Suffolk, VA researching my ancestors I stopped by the Suffolk Railroad Museum and I was glad I did. Demi Naylor was very helpful giving me directions to areas I was looking to visit. The museum was a very good place to find some information of the Suffolk area history and the miniature trains were very nice. I had... More

The staff is amazing. The models tell the history of Suffolk and the train table is a must! The caboose is a little hard to get in, but it sure was fun taking my child in there.

My grands, 11 and 9, loved the train station museum. There's a to scale town with the train running. It is quite grand. The docents can answer any questions you might ask. There's also a great view from the top floor as well.

Stopped by after lunch in Suffolk to see the railroad-related museum. Good fun for anyone who like railroads or is interested in the history of Suffolk, VA. They do an excellent job meshing Suffolk history with the railroad. Staff is enthusiastic and spent time giving us a tour and showing the two young boys in our party, the HO-scale railroad... More
