Overview
More
Preservation Virginia acquired the Cape Henry Lighthouse in 1930 when Congress deeded the house and 1.77 Acres of land to the organization in order to preserve it and make it accessible to the public. Over the years lighthouse and its surroundings have been restored including repairing the lantern after damage from Hurricane Barbara in 1953, repairing the damaged original Aquia sandstone and restoring the surrounding dunes. Today, visitors to the Cape Henry Lighthouse can climb to the top of the tower to enjoy spectacular views of the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

If you like lighthouses, too looke this one. It's the first lighthouse built in America. You can climb to the top. The price is a bit steep for what you get, but it costs money to preserve a national treasure.

Even though I've been to the lighthouse quite a few times, it never gets old. To see history and to be able to climb to the top is amazing. You can see for miles, from the Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel to open ocean. There are a...More

The light house at Fort Story provides visitors a fantastic view of both the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Climbing to the top is somewhat difficult for seniors and small children but is well worth the effort. Bring a camera or binoculars. A great...More

Not directly, no. Since the lighthouse is on military property, you have to have some way to access the base. If a cab driver was military, e.g. retired, it might be possible, but I don't know how they handle that situation... More
