Historic Jamestowne is the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America. Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early 1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic rediscovery. The site is jointly administered by the National Park Service and Preservation Virginia.

The park service has a nice visitors center and offers tours of the original Jamestown site with various historical points. Watch for a tour led by one of the archeologists actually working on the site and join up with them. They will point out where...More

Wonderful site to image the first English settlers to Virginia and all the hardships they faced! The archaeological work on display is amazing! The ties in history to Pocahontas and John Smith is fascinating, especially as you can stand in the spot where she married...More

This was better than Williamsburg. It showed actual artifacts and you could actually watch people doing an archeological dig. It was a self-guided tour so you can go at your own pace

Well organized park with great signage, landmarks and gift shop. Very friendly staff. Even though it was a heat wave during our visit, there was plenty of shade, water fountains, etc

This was a high point to the trip. Despite very hot and humid conditions, the staff went out of their way to engage visitors and share the history in an enjoyable and meaningful manner. Easy walking and clearly presented maps and time schedule of events

Don't think so... the place is laced with boarwalks. May be a bit tricky, if he wants to get on one of the boats, though. Happy travels.
