It was a cold day and the ferry was packed but it was a nice trip. On the way to Scotland you can see Jamestowne (the monument and some buildings)from the ferry. It's about about a 15 trip from one side to the other.

Ferry is very efficient and runs every half hour and is FREE. Fun to get out of car on the 20 minute ride from Jamestown to other side of river. Beautiful ride. We took the backroads here from I-95 and avoided going up to Petersburg/Richmond...More

I saw the ferry when we were at Jamestown and asked about it, and was surprised to learn it was free. Since we were heading south we took the ferry across to Scotland where we picked up lovely country back roads taking us back to...More

A free boat ferry. YES They normally have plenty of ferries running except later at night. Love the fact they have restrooms on board.

A friend took me on this ferry ride to go to dinner. What a little hidden gem. A free ride on a ferry to kill some time with the family, especially if the kids have never been on one.

Beautiful views, fresh breezes! What’s not to love? Feed the seagulls-and it’s all free! Can even be a “short-cut” from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach. Don’t miss Surry and Smithfield along the way. And the fall brings cotton fields ready for harvest that are so much...More

We used the ferry several times as we stayed across the river from Jamestown and Williamsburg. The schedule is followed in a timely manner. The staff was accommodating. The ride, especially in the day, was enjoyable.

Well organized, efficient and a pleasant ride. Sure beats driving through traffic to a bridge! I’d take this ferry again if Inam in the area.

Rode the ferry last month as we returned to Williamsburg from the Outer Banks. Rather than drive through rush hour in Norfolk we went cross country to the ferry. Admittedly it may have been faster driving in traffic and the road to the dock is...More

Yes, but you may not get turned around in time to catch the same ferry and will end up waiting for the next one. about 20 min.

You can walk on the ferry on either side but you'll need to arrange transportation on each side, especially the Surry side. There is a great seafood restaurant close to the ferry. The ferry is alway fun. Enjoy it!
