The battlefield is small but the staff was nice and knowledgeable. Great place to learn about General Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson.

I got to the battlefield on a rainy Saturday morning. Part of the staff was in the Visitors Center and were super friendly. As I was by myself, the staff was willing to let me see the inside of the house which is currently undergoing renovations. There was a brief issue with the alarm and the inside of the house... More

Kernstown was the site of two large battles during the Civil War, one in 1862 and one in 1864. A dedicated group of volunteers has managed to raise millions of dollars to save the core area of both sites, open a quite decent visitor center, and serve as the hub for visiting other sections of the battlefield that they do... This is a small battlefield on which two battles where fought, that had big impacts on the war. My wife has been working on her family ancestry and had found that her Great Grandfather died here doing the 2nd battle. The tour guide spent extra time helping my wife to figure out more of the story and pointed her in... More

We meet a very helpful older gentleman who volunteered there who was a delight and treasure trove of facts of the battles and area. He also guided us to a back display barn that housed several cannons of historical interest and a recently... More

The Kernstown Battlefield is a small, but well kept battlefield. It has a small, but wonderful museum in the Visitor Center! A huge plus for history buffs is the option to go into the Pritchard House! Due to the limited operating hours on weekends starting in May and ending in October(Saturday hours 10 AM-4PM and Sunday hours noon-4 PM) I... More

This was our first stop on a 10-day tour of American Civil War sites. We came on the first day of the season and were delighted to discover some re-enactors in the park which adied extra interest. We took a guided walk with a very interesting and informative volunteer called Mike. He was very happy to answer questions from the... More
