Ride on hard-packed gravel. More signs are needed including how far into the woods to the tower. What views.

The road from Woodstock is very, very bad. It's much better and just about as quick to approach from the Fort Valley side. It's a short hike to the tower. Some people might have problems with the steps going up the tower. The view is...More

Woodstock Tower Road is closed from both directions, the signs say through 8/31/18. Very disappointed, I even drove an extra hour to approach from the eastern side, and that was closed too. At least the drive was pretty, with lots of curvy roads. Giving it...More

Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935, the Woodstock Tower Observation Site offers a stunning 360-degree view of the town of Woodstock, Fort Valley and the Seven Bends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River at over 2,000 feet. The area is now...More

Well this will be a test of your nerves especially if you approach it from the Woodstock side. A twisty narrow 14 hairpin bends extending up 2000 feet will test the best of any driver. Hope you don’t meet anything coming down as reversing could...More

We were sweltering, and the roof provided no protection. My kids and my husband were really disappointed, we thought it would be really fun from the excellent reviews.

It's a great view from on top, but the road from Woodstock to the trail for the tower is not exactly for those who don't like narrow roads with drop offs on the side and very tight switchbacks. The road is at best mostly 1...More

There is a short walk along a winding path to get to the tower. The stairs up to the observation deck are pretty narrow, but very passable. Once you are at the top, the views of the seven bends of the Shenandoah are breathtaking! Early...More

This viewpoint is absolutely magnificent and you can see for miles in both directions. My only issue was getting to the tower. I parked at the first parking area and could see the tower from the trail but then it went off in a different...More

This #1 Woodstock activity is highly recommended. Formerly a firehouse tower this attraction has been rebuilt out of wood with metal stairs. Take the Woodstock Tower Road (it's marked, or ask anyone in town) to the top of the mountain ridge. There is parking and...More

It is free. not really a picnic spot. No bathrooms. It is an old fire watch tower. The view is spectacular but the drive up.is really tough.
