Great place to stop and learn about the power of nature. A movie explains all the details about Mount St Helens and the surrounding area. Many exhibits help all learn more about the area and it is great for kids. Wonderful friendly staff were very...More

We enjoyed this stop on our trip very much. Allow about an hour to get there from Castle Rock. Allow a couple hours to make the drive and get out and look at the overlooks - about an hour is the inside visitor center for...More

Beautiful drive up! We stopped by two centers. We learned a lot. Maybe not as interesting for my 6 year old but they had some fun things for kids. They have informational documentaries at the centers also. They do cost. Definitely worth seeing!!! Cold water...More

If you want a bit of historical background and preview about Mt. St. Helens, stop by the Mt. St. Helens Visitor Center. They do have a 10 minute mini-documentary about Mt. St. Helens and the eruption. The Center also has areas where you can see...More

A fascinating place to visit, firstly for the dramatic views that you'll get further up the park, but also for the well-presented story of the eruption and subsequent recovery that's presented in this visitor centre.

It makes a very good first stop for your day at Mount St. Helens. I would definitely choose to spend my "museum" time at Mount St. Helens Visitor Center over Johnston Ridge Observatory (of course still go there too, but you may not really want...More

The centre itself was fairly nice if a little dated, and there was a short marshland trail which we enjoyed. The volcano itself is just about visible in the distance, as long as you have a clear day. We would have liked to continue on...More

There's a lot of information here, and it's worth spending time on your way up to Johnson Ridge (or even if the visitor center is your destination), as you'll learn a lot about the mountain and the 1980 eruption. Having said that, the exhibits are...More

A very nice and informative visitor center run by the state park. Complements the national monument visitor center very well. The exhibits were interesting and well designed. Conveniently located near the national monument.

We drove to Mt St Helens from Portland as that is where we were staying. The observatory is the place to get the best view and information about the eruption!!! Hope it works out for you.

Depending on your age and stamina, I would suggest leaving Everett very early in the morning to avoid Seattle/Tacoma traffic (you probably know how bad it can be.) As suggested, maybe skip the visitor's center and drive on... More
