Yup bears. I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't found tracks. Well that just adds to the adventures. The area is beautiful but I would say off trail hiking should be left to those in pretty good shape and up to some rough country.

Just beyond the busy campground there is an incredible view point that cannot be ignored. On Highway 17 near Coulee City is this gem. Morning sunrise is a total stunner, you might believe you have transported in time. Anytime is awesome view time. The big State Park (Sun Lakes is one of the best hiking, biking and wildlife areas in... More

We picked this spot randomly - it was close by around supper time when we decided to get off the road. Sites were a good size It was very quiet - we had our pick of spots. The lake is only a few hundred yards from the campsites - easy walk. Lots of deer around. Fires were allowed. You need... More

We visit family in the area and a stop at this state park is a must. The first lake has a nice roped off area and is next to the camping cabin area - this is a great spot for families, particularly with little kids as you can keep them within eyesight. We often go to Deep Lake and jump... More

I love it here! My husband and daughter came with me and we all had a lot of fun. I went bird watching (great place for it!), while my husband an daughter went metal detecting (one of the few places you can actually go in the area). There are multiple places to swim (not fine sand, but not rocks; somewhere... More

We came with our 35foot rv and car. There are only 3 drive thru sites but there is no one here! We came in on a Wednesday. Today is Thursday and now there are only 5 people in rv area. It is quiet, clean and has full hook ups for 35.00 -40.00 which is high compared to some state parks.... More

This was our 1st time here and we stayed at the State Park area on Labor Day Weekend, it was busy but not really sold out, there is also a "Resort" area that is on the other side of the park. People from the State park can also go over to the "resort" side and access the putt putt, regular... More

Stayed at the Sun Lakes state park, but that gave us access to the resort. The resort was run down. The mini golf was like golfing around a bunch of toxic cesspools. The food prices there are very expensive. Women changing their kids on the side walk. In the park, the campsite the gave us had the worlds largest wasp... More

Our five families booked three sites last minute. There's a reason this campground had openings on an August weekend... First: the spots are small & there is no privacy. You have to pitch your tent on gravel/dirt. That's a bit of a bummer, but okay. There were so many aggressive wasps that we literally could not have food out on... More

The scenery is wonderful, the lake is refreshing--you better get reservations early!! Very conducive to family get togethers with options of tent camping, Rv's, cabins and mobile homes. Not fancy, but great for a couple of days. A couple of flower beds looked like noxious weed beds. They needed attention!! We had 45 people in our group, ranging in age... More
