It can be challenging to get to Sucia Island, but it is worth the effort. Fantastic rock formations along the shorelines are a highlight of the place. Joining a multi-day kayak camping tour might be the best way to see the unique geology. Be cautious if you paddle out there alone, if you don't have the right skills then you... More

The perfect summer boating destination, but even better in the off-season, when it's less busy. Plenty of state mooring balls to tie up to in Echo Bay, as well as quite a few in Fossil Bay and a handful on the west side in Shallow Bay, as well. Miles of excellent hiking trails, beautiful camp sites, picnic tables and pebble... More

Anchor the boat and spend a few hours exploring this gem of a place. There are several paths and viewpoints to take it all in. Also a nice selection of drift-woods throughout the beach areas.

This island is really beautiful. We walked across the island through woods and along the coastline. Amazing.

In 1960, the boaters in the area pooled their money and bought this lovely, fingers shaped island to give it to the state, thus preventing developers from build multiple housing units. What a stroke of genius and generosity! The island is still boat-access only, but you can get there, as I did, in as small as a 16 foot aluminum... More

We camp here every year with our kids and it never gets old! The trails are so well maintained, the beaches are gorgeous, the sandstone formations make for really fun exploring and the campgrounds are very well kept and much more private than most campgrounds on the islands.

Sucia is one of the jewels of the San Juan Islands...but you already knew that. Sucia can only be reached by boat...but you already knew that. Fossil Bay has a dock but is crowded. Echo Bay is exposed, but has some nice but crowded campsites. The best campsite is #26 on the SW side of Shallow Bay, accessible by boat... More

Sucia Island is a marvel of wildlife filled woods with just a few well groomed trails connecting good campgrounds and picnic sites. Locals described it as having a very different vibe from the larger island, I imagine it has the vibe of Orcas before roads were paved and plumbing installed. Sucia is similar to Blake Island, a similar mid-sound state... More

we love Sucia State Park. To hike, kayak, camp, relax. It's clean, quiet, with green lawn, picnic tables, covered shelters.

After the captain of our 60-passenger vessel demonstrated his masterful docking skills, we disembarked to enjoy the island's well-maintained hiking trails. The interpretive signs located on the trails are well-done. There are several beautiful campsites on the island (reservations are probably helpful during the high season). We made use of the nice picnic shelter located near the docks. There are... More
