Troy gave an amazing, engaging, interesting lesson in astronomy. He was able to drop enough knowledge to impress those who speak "astronomy-ese" and also explain things really clearly for kids. We went on Memorial Day weekend for the 8:30 pm show. Be on time. You...More

We spent the day exploring the Columbia River Gorge and made our way to the Goldendale Observatory based on other folks suggestions. We learned a lot of great information and our kids ages 6 and 7 stayed entertained for the most part. They loved being...More

Like other reviewers we were in awe of the equal parts knowledge and charisma of the Observatory Director. The worst part of the presentation was regretting we didn't have the kids with us. There was so much information shared in an entertaining and memorable way....More

We have been to the observatory three times--two afternoons and an evening. For our first two visits, we were the only visitors as the weather was crappy. Who wants to visit an observatory when the weather is cloudy? Do not let that hold you back....More

The view is incredible and this is a great place to visit. Go when you are in the area. This is good, low key family fun and cheap treat too. All age adventure

The Observatory was a must see stop on our journey and even though the main telescope isn't up and running at the moment, we still managed to see Saturn, a dying sun and the Andromeda Galaxy! Troy was the guide that night and he challenged...More

Run by Washington State Parks, this observatory has one of the finest telescopes available for public use in the country. During the day the rangers (who are astronomers) will do a guided tour that includes seeing sun spots, and prominences (on a clear day). At...More

The skies here are perfect for astronomy, and the town of Goldendale actually has light ordinances to keep it that way! If you enjoy seeing the Milky Way from horizon to horizon (not a candy bar, the real thing), and would love to get a...More

I agree with JillCY. We were there in September and it was busy then with a long line of excited people. You could contact the Observatory for their recommendations on photo taking. As for other things needed, the... More
