This walk is not for people with bad knees or legs, as it is over 5.5 miles in each direction on a sandy and rocky beach. On very stormy days the water will cover the spit and sometimes wash out a section of it. Volunteers...More

Two hours of fast walking on the sand was invigorating. Our reward: the lighthouse tour and picnic tables for a bag lunch. Then another two hour return walk. Took up most of our day - fabulous views every minute!

It's a 12 mile round trip from the parking lot, to the lighthouse and back, AND it's well worth it. In good weather the views are spectacular. The ocean is green blue with gentle waves. There's lots to see on the walk inc sea birds,...More

Check the tide tables first, and then be ready for a great walk! it took us about 5 hours for the round trip, including a tour of the lighthouse. There are picnic tables if you want to bring a lunch. There are no facilities on...More

The journey is half the fun. You have to hike 5 miles on the Dungeness Spit to get to the lighthouse, but it is absolutely gorgeous, from the ocean waves to the piles of driftwood. Some parts are rockier than others, but it's totally doable....More

We so enjoyed our walk on the spit. We did not go the full 11 mile roundtrip to the lighthouse as we didn't have time. We went half way and had to turn back, but were thankful we got to experience walking along the Straits....More

I followed signs from Highway 101 to the Dungeness Wildlife Refuge. I spoke with a volunteer/forest ranger and gathered a tremendous amount of information. I learned that the walk is 5.5 miles. It feels like t0 coming back. The lighthouse is beautiful and I learned...More

I checked with my friend and, after spending a week there as a lighthouse keeper, she never saw a single dog so my guess is no, dogs aren't allowed there on the beach or in the lighthouse. They may be okay in the campground... More
