I can find nothing about the founding of Heavner Cemetery. Perhaps it is a mid-19th century cemetery named after the people who owned the land at the time. The Heavner family has a well maintained plot in the oldest part of the cemetery which has had a few additions over the years. Heavner Cemetery is NOT a Victorian Garden Cemetery with windy pathways, numerous plantings, interesting monuments and private mausoleum. It is a simple country cemetery laid out in rows with family plots. There are very few interesting 19th century monuments, but there are some worth noting. (see my photos) You will find family names on stones and monuments that are still found in Buckannon in the 21st century. Of interest to me was the monument of Laura Jackson Arnold, sister to General Stonewall Jackson, who lived in Beverly, WV. during the Civil War and who was divorced by her husband which was a scandalous event during the 19th century.
