Casual vibe. Several nice bars/restaurants within walking distance. The river festivals also easy walking distance. Enjoyed walking the tree lined street, checking out the area.

Capitol St is great to walk down and enjoy the multiple shops and local restaurants with outdoor dining areas! You should especially try to go when they do the Art Walk, I believe the third Thursday of every month.

Capitol Street in downtown Charleston is much changed from my youth, but if anything it is more charming now than it was then. Tree shaded, it is a mix of law offices, restaurants, and a book store cum coffee shop plus home-made ice cream -...More

They have lovely shops, a great book store, a pizza parlor, pubs, the library, and a great, safe place for walking. I took my 8 year old niece there for spring break for ice cream, and she enjoyed the walking, browsing and shopping.

Glad to see Capitol Street has evolved into a great place for a stroll or getting some speciality ice cream or dessert. I remember when it was lined with department stores and specialty shops back in the 50's and 60's.

The area is great but parking is the pits. Who wants to traverse the city center and pay the fees that are asked or receive a parking ticket.

Yes. I believe all public places must be wheel chair accessible (I think it's a law there).
