We took the railroad trip because our parents couldn't hike or trek to see the falls. We started from the point at Elkins and took the one to High Falls on a Saturday. The trip started exactly on time and boarding was simple. The 4...More

The leaves were turning so our ride was really pretty. There was a mix up with our seat. A group was in that car. Not sure how that happened when my ticket said which seats I bought. They ended up putting us in the buffet...More

I love trains and the ride from Elkins to Old Spruce and back was a joy. The sway of the train, the sunlight through the window and the great conversation with table mates was very enjoyable. The trip narrator was very knowledgeable and helpful throughout...More

So much fun. We had perfect weather and the leaves were in their prime. This train goes to the top of the mountain. The cars are open - no windows. Best to sit in the furthest cars from the engine. Be prepared to get sprinkled...More

The people at the station were very nice and so was the conductor he greeted you. Pay for the Parlor Car It was worth it! Parlor car had better seating, better views and easier to get to food and restrooms. Also we were the first...More

The train ride was long (the 8 hour trip) but the scenery was wonderful. Ride was relaxing. Lunch was provided and was decent. Katy was the guide and gave us lots of information on the flora and fauna along the way. She was also helpful...More

My wife always wanted to do this trip .... even she was disappointed. We DID NOT sit in the parlor car. We were in a coach car stuffed in with WAY too many people. If you don't have four people in your party you will...More

The train left the station on time. The view of the river was outstanding. Dinner was cooked on the train and was over the top. The dining car was crowded.

The train is run well and the staff is friendly. However, unless your goal is simply to ride on a train, you may be disappointed overall. You are seated around tables with 4 people each so the historical aspect of the old passenger car seating...More

Enjoyed the 8 hour trip immensely. The morning started out cold and foggy but by the time the train got out of city the fog was lifting and the sun was shinning. The leaves were turning so the trip was extra special. The river was...More

From Elkins Depot it says no in their rules, however I don’t remember them being very strict. I think I took a water bottle. I went on one that served lunch and that began very shortly after our trip began!

Yeah, no problem. You may not get down steps to some falls attractions but the train rides should be good.
