Tour the fascinating world of radio astronomy and see the pioneering instruments of the 1950's to the world's premier single-dish telescope, the GBT! Entrance to the science center is FREE, includes admission to the exhibit hall. We also feature the Starlight Cafe-nominated as WV's 101 Unique Places to Dine and the Galaxy Gift Shop with out of this world souvenirs and educational items. Our most popular option is the telescope tour. Featuring science demonstrations and even a bus excursion through our gates into the RFI-restricted Zone I, the hour-long telescope tour takes you up-close to the world's biggest telescopes. Admission to the Exhibit Hall, Cafe and Gift Shop is FREE. The telescope tour is $6/adults, $5/seniors, Free/Kids 10&under, and Free/Veterans, Active Service Members.

This place was wonderful. It clearly needs more funding as the exhibit hall was a bit run down, but my three year old certainly did not notice. The star lab tour offered on Sundays was great.

Very educational and interesting. Worth making the drive to see at least once in a lifetime. $6 per adult is a steal for a 1 hour tour which includes a bus tour of all the radio telescopes on the grounds in off limits areas. Highly...More

Really enjoyed our stop here. They did a good job explaining their purpose. I was amused by the alien references. It is unbelievable to see how big the devices actually are. Would be a great tour for middle school on up.

During my West Virginia vacation, I was hoping to visit here but was unaware how close it was to other planned stops. The Education Hall was outstanding and you really need some time to absorb all of it. We arrived late and was able to...More

This is a fabulous place that deserves big crowds. However, its out-of-the-way location makes it a destination you have to intend to visit, since it’s not really on the way to anyplace else! And that’s deliberate, since the location was chosen to guarantee a certain...More

I have known about the Green Bank Observatory for a long time. This is the dark area you might see if you ever view where cell phone coverage is. There is a ten mile radio free zone around the Green Bank Observatory, where they are...More

Though it is quite a long way from the highways, and deep in a radio quiet zone (no cell service, no broadcat signals), the Green Bank Observatory is a fantastic visit for science and astronomy fans. The enormous Robert C Byrd 100-meter telescope is striking,...More

And see first hand the enormous GBT. There's a cafe on site, as well as restrooms and gift shop. Don't miss the interactive exhibit. The tour is inexpensive and the trip would be incomplete without it. Having said that, our tour guide was not equipped...More

Great place if you're into astronomy or are passing through the area. It's truly in the middle of nowhere so it might not be worth the trip otherwise. The exhibit is small, but interesting and informative. Kids might like it. The tour is $6 and...More

Thank you so much for your feedback. We do make every effort to inform our guests about the no-electronic-use-near-the-telescopes policy. I apologize that we dropped the ball in this case. We do strive to be a family-friendly educational center where we can offer an informative,...More
