This is an old home belonging to a late local businessman. Being a lumber baron, the woodwork inside was excellent. The turkish nook was great fun to see along with ornate rugs and decor from the Middle East. I wished the docent would have asked how long we had for a tour. The parking needs to be clearly marked. Hixon House is unique in that it has survived through the years largely intact, including furnishings and wall coverings. Historic home from a 1800's lumber Barron. Allow 1.5 - 2.0 hours for the tour. Lots of original furnishings. Guide also explains, in great detail, the restoration

This was the highlight... More

We lucky enough to have a tour only 5 days after Hixon house was opened for tours after an extensive renovation of the home. The inside was restored with meticulous care. A great toour to go on.
