    So good we went twice
Visited Holkham Park twice during our stay Wells - didn’t go in the house. Neither did we pay for parking as we walked there. The grounds are beautiful and easy to spot the deer. Coffee and cake from the wagon at the walled garden was amazing ( peanut brownie was delicious). The food at the courtyard was ok but sometimes the sandwiches for us are not plain enough but that’s just a personal choice. The grounds were well worth our two visits.
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had two lovely visits during your time in Wells!

    Fabulous place
My wife and I with our dog visited Holkham Hall estate and it was absolutely wonderful. We took turns to go into the house whilst the other walked across to the walled garden which itself is 6 acres. Our dog had the pleasure of two trips to the Walled Garden although if she could speak I am sure she would have said ‘haven’t I done this before?’. The grounds are huge and just exploring the house takes about an hour and there are plenty of other activities to do as well. A real jewel nestled just off the main road. Well worth a visit.
Thank you so much for your fabulous feedback and recommendation

    Amazing staff
Went to Holkham Hall with our young child to see the deer. On arrival he saw a tractor parked up, which we later found out was the tractor for the tractor ride. The staff members around the tractor were Stuart and Keith, both were brilliant and friendly. Massive thank you to Stuart for letting our young boy sit in the drivers seat of the tractor, obviously whilst it was parked, it made his day. We actually went on the tractor ride, £5.50 for adults and free for under 2yrs. It was awesome, the sites of the deer were amazing and the tour itself was very enjoyable.
Stuart and Keith will be delighted to read your review - all of our staff love to go the extra mile to give our visitors a memorable day with us. Thank you so much for sharing your feedback.

    Gift Vouchers
We really enjoyed our day at Holkham Hall, so much to see and do with lots of history. Only downside was the disappointment of the gift vouchers that had been a present from our family. Whatever you spend on your first item, no refund is given for the rest of the vouchers which in our case we were going to spend £28 in the cafe which means we would have lost the remaining £22. Instead we used tham for entrance into the Hall which meant we paid £25 per person instead of the £23 per person entrance. Whilst we were not expecting a cash refund some form of refund in vouchers would have been good even if they had to be spent on the day. This is not what you would expect from Holkham Hall especially in the financial crisis we are all in at the moment. To us it's like stealing our money.
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to read of your disappointment. As Holkham has various different businesses, the 'no change' policy is the only way our accountancy systems can work with our paper gift vouchers. When people purchase gift vouchers we do offer a choice of denominations which enables the recipient to spend smaller amounts in different businesses. We are aware that this is not ideal for everyone and are looking at being able to sell digital vouchers in the future. We are acutely aware of the cost of living issues and it is certainly not our intention to appear to steal people's money and are concerned that you felt this way. Please accept our apologies.

Really good for a full day out
Lovely park (we didn’t go in the house as we had our dog) but enjoyed a walk with the pram and a stop in the cafe. The cafe was ok. Good for a quick lunch. The shop was full of lovely things. But the best thing was the nice walking including heading down to the beach where there was another cafe and the dog loved running around in the sand
Thank you so much for your recommendation and great feedback.

    Above and beyond customer service
I visited Holkham Hall with my husband and my mum who had mobility issues. Not long after arriving we were greeted by Dave and Sarah from the Visitor Experience team who explained that a buggy was available to take us all to the walled garden and it would take my mums walker too. This was absolutely brilliant as my mum would not have been able to have walked to this area. On the ride to the garden Dave told my mum about the mobility scooter available for her to use. When we arrived he soon put her mind at ease and demonstrated how easy it was to use. He was so patient and ensured she was happy and confident on it. The use of the scooter really made all the difference as we were all able to explore the garden together. After a fab coffee and delicious cake, Sarah and Dave called for the buggy to take us all back to the house. The service given by Dave, Sarah, Lance and Nigel ensured that my mum especially had a very enjoyable and memorable day.
Our team takes immense pride in ensuring all our visitors have the best possible day with us and are delighted that you and your mum had such a memorable day. Thank you for your wonderful review.

High end eating at Holkham Hall
The Victoria is a hotel/resto at Holkham Hall on the North Norfolk coast. Like the surroundings, it is wonderful. The staff may be multi national - from Portugal, Romania and elsewhere - but the cuisine is unashamedly British, an excellent too. Much, if not all, the things you will find on your plate here is sourced directly from the sprawling Estate, including the mouth watering meat and delicious vegetables (which come from the Walled Garden). As the game season is about to start, you can expect some terrific venison and the like very soon. We paid a visit on a flying trip from Belgium and it was well worth the long drive through East Anglia. The service is very friendly and welcoming and the staff take the time and trouble to explain everything on the fantastic menu. The food, as ever, is the main thing and, here, you will not be disappointed as it quite marvellous. There is a fixed menu during the week served at lunchtime which consists of a small choice of starters and mains, including seared estate beef goulash and herb crusted cod. Two courses costs a very reasonable £23 and three is an equally affordable £29. The a la carte choice is just as lovely: starters include Brancaster Bay moules, squash cheesecake and Holkham beef and fruit pig white pudding. Mains feature an estate cut of the day, turkey escalope, plaice fillet, stroganoff and curried smoked hadock. There is also a daily plats du jour consisting of dishes like salmon and prawn pie, sole and confit pork belly. The dessert and drinks offerings are just as terrific and, again, all this is lovingly explained by the nice staff. After a quite wonderful meal, either lunch or dinner, here you should try to explore a bit of the nearby Estate as it would be a shame not to. We, sadly, did not have time as this was a very short visit but we hope to see something of Holkham Hall in the future. Either way, if you are in this wondrous part of the UK you really should also make a beeline for this magnificent restaurant - you will not be disappointed for sure. Highly recommended (the views are great too......)
An incredible review and recommendation, thank you. We are thrilled you enjoyed your meal at The Victoria and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

    Beautiful stunning place
I've been to holkham hall twice now once in the summer and just recently for the Christmas event I have to say both are well worth it . The estate itself is just beautiful definitely worth a lovely walk and the cafe and gift shop are also worth popping into . The Christmas event was just so magical don't think about this one just book and go you will not be disappointed. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Can't recommend this enough .

    Great afternoon
I can’t understand the negativity of some. On the path from the car park, which was included in the ticket price, were Fallow deer within feet of where we stood. The Christmas lights display was superb with a brilliant, if all too rare these days, Nativity scene in the Chapel. The light displays by Luxmuralis were sensational. Throughout the displays were great, especially the Christmas ‘tree’ with the trains running around it. The staff at Holkham from the welcoming team, right through, are friendly and look as if they are enjoying themselves. I recommend that you go and see for yourself.
We are thrilled you had a great festive afternoon with us and love reading your wonderful feedback - thank you.

    Lovely pre Christmas treat.
The tour by candlelight was wonderful . We arrived in a group by coach and we're met by a member of staff who welcomed us and handed out tickets with a time on to visit the house. Before going in we had a bit of a walk round and a look in the gift shop When we entered the house we were once again made welcome and entered the marble hall to the sound of a piano playing. The tour was interesting and decorations amazing. The light shows too were great and I would happily have stayed longer in all of the rooms. The tour ended with a mince pie and a glass of prosecco. Then we went outside to do some carol singing. The staff made us really feel welcomed throughout the whole visit which was really good.
What wonderful feedback, thank you. We are delighted you had a lovely festive time with us.

We arrived to Holkham Hall on Fathersday 2021 after booking tickets online (2 adults and 2 children =£144) for their picnic event. We were all very excited for the event that was booked well in advance. However when we arrived at Holkham Hall our car was direct to a separate part of the car park and we were told to wait for someone to come and speak to us. As we waited we saw one member of staff going from car to car, eventually the staff member came to us and handed us a piece of paper with a statement advising us that the event had been cancelled. This was the first confirmation we had about this, the staff member read the statement and refused to discuss further. We were off course devastated as it was a Fathersday treat. Not only did we waste 2 hours in the car that day but was unable to make any further plans due to everywhere being booked up because it was Fathersday. Whilst I understand situations arise and events can be cancelled, the lack of communication meant we wasted over 2 hours in the car that day and could not make any other plans. There was no refund arranged on the day we were told we would be contacted by the following Tuesday by the company they had partnered with for the event (tickets were booked through Holkham Hall website). I did not hear anything by the Tuesday and had to make contact to get my money back, I am still waiting for the refund however I have an email confirmation stating that I will only get the face value of the tickets (amount unconfirmed but will be minus admin fees!!) I have received an apology from the event organiser and the reason for cancellation is that 2 key people from their team had to self isolate and they did not have any back up staff to replace them due to so many people leaving the industry. I feel a year into the pandemic this is poor contingency planning.

Firstly thank you for your valuable feedback drawing your concerns and understandable disappointment to our attention. We are sincerely sorry to learn of your experience. It is very disappointing for Holkham to receive comments of this nature, as we set ourselves high standards and expectations to deliver an enjoyable and fulfilling visitor experience at all times. Following a meeting with the event organiser, Midsummer Nightcap and a review of delivery of the event sessions on Saturday, a decision needed to be taken to cancel the subsequent events. We are sorry that you did not hear about the cancellation before your arrival at Holkham and can completely understand your frustration at a wasted journey. No tickets were sold by us at Holkham through our website, so we had no booking data to be able to contact people. The organisers worked with SeeTickets (their chosen ticket agent) to contact all bookings. We had assurances from the organisers that all cancelled bookings for Father’s Day had been emailed by 10.30am and by SMS by 11am. Inevitably some people had already set out on their journey, or didn’t see their email / SMS, so the Holkham team issued a printed statement. As we are just the venue, not the event organiser, our staff were not in a position to comment on behalf of the event organisers. We can see that this was frustrating for you. We are incredibly disappointed that the organisers will not refund you the booking fee for your tickets. We at Holkham had asked them to ensure that guests were refunded fully, as the cancellation had caused enough disappointment and inconvenience without an additional loss of money. While we can’t guarantee this, we suggest that you email the organisers to request this at info@midsummernightcap.com. We are also disappointed by the reason given by the organisers for the cancellation is self-isolation. This is not the main reason for the cancellation. Again, we are truly sorry about your experience, and hope that this will not put you off from visiting Holkham again in the future.

We turned up on a beautiful day and loved our time here. I hired a bike and spent a couple of hours exploring the grounds and down to the bay. The staff were friendly and handling the social distancing really well. The music and food on the grass next to the lake was a great addition, and the cafe and shop were well organised and had plenty of choice. Everything felt so easy and that was quite a contrast when it's so difficult to feel safe in public places. Car park was the only entrance fee and fairly cheap in comparison to many similar attractions, and there was so much space it was easy to avoid people.
The landscape is beautiful and seeing deers under the trees was a bonus. We had decided within 30 minutes that we'd be returning with the kids.
Well done Holkham - we had a wonderful time with you.

Visited for our third Christmas Candlelight Tour whilst on a weeks holiday during Storm Arwen. Pleasant surprise awaits. Didn’t have to pay for Blue Badge Parking although we’d been informed when we booked the timed tickets that we would have to . I think the numbers let into the house at any one time were restricted and all visitors and staff required to wear masks, ( a bonus). Prior to going into the house we has partaken of a glass, albeit a three quarter glass of Prosecco and what looked like a homemade mince pie. A window in the restaurant sitting area had been left slightly open to allow some ventilation. The hall looked beautiful with , if I recall 62 Christmas trees spread around the house. Each room had its own theme and our favourite tree was made of deer antlers from the deers on the estate. It’s amazing how they find something different each year.Cost of £28 each not cheap for a 45 minute tour.

Holkham hall is probably one of my favourite places to go for a walk, it's perfect any time of the year particularly spring/summer. The hall is surrounded by large stretches of land where you can sit down and relax, have a picnic, go for walks/cycling, play games with the kids.....and so forth. I've never been inside the hall but I've heard its worth a look. It also has a cafe on site which provides snacks, drinks and toilet facilities.

Theres plenty of parking here which is very cheap at £2 50 for the whole day. Walks around the hall are very pretty - you can go around the large lake and view all the different varieties of duck, from there it's very open and takes you past the famous deer which you can get quite close to for pictures, after that you can look inside the church on the hill and write a funny note in the visitors book. There are also some gardens you can look around but I think you have to pay for those. From there you end up at the other end of the lake which is more foresty and simply stunning. If you're lucky you may see some wildlife. You can then walk past a large memorial which takes you back down to the deer which have usually moved to shelter by that point and you will find massive pine cones and conkers at the right time of year.

At that point you've done a full circle and from all the walking you're ready to head back to the car!

We stopped by Holkham hall for an afternoon and it was lovely. We paid to walk around the walled gardens which were really well kept and had a variety of plants and flowers and fruit and vegetables growing. Took a walk around the estate (not really following a particular route but attempting to walk around the lake) and saw lots of deer and birds and other wildlife.
The weekend we visited there was a “feast in the park” where there were lots of different food and drink stalls and we had some really tasty lunch.

Beautiful grounds overlooking the lake and lots to see and do especially for families. The car park costs £4 but then you don't have to spend another penny if you're happy with a picnic and/or a walk! There is cycle hire, excellent adventure playground, cafe & various food stalls (including ice cream van) - although the Hall and boat hire are closed due to covid the walled garden was open. The red deer are lovely to see up close and there's lots of birds & wildlife around the lake. We will definitely return for another visit. Highly recommended, super place!

Thanks for your fantastic review, sounds like you made the most of everything we have on offer and we appreciate your recommendation! The deer that call our parkland home are actually Fallow Deer, we previously had Red Deer but they were damaging the trees, so they were rehomed. It's great you got to see the wildlife and deer up close for an immersive Holkham experience. Hope to see you again.

Visited on Saturday 09th April 2022 as part of a North Norfolk Weekend. This first visit was via a walk from our estate accommodation at 52 Sea Holly to the nearby Holkham Estate and House. The accommodation wasn't great and will be avoided but the Hall was lovely. Revisited properly on Monday 11th April 2022 with pre-booked tickets on the limited number of days Holkham Hall was open to the public. We walked around the house and thought the enclosed fountain and formal garden would be open but sadly they were not, so we only got views from the outside looking in. Eclectic interiors (read random/tasteless). The old kitchen was lovely, and as ever the best thing about these places is not the owners, but the workers and volunteers who run them. Disappointed that there was an extra charge for access to the walled garden but our ticket covered entry. There were Tractor rides to view the deer and parkland were a great idea, but only having 3 rides a day was dumb especially as tickets sold out very early.

Very welcoming staff, good cafe and an interesting house, which is by prebooked visit only. Also a good introductory tour (Holkham Stories). However, a few niggles. The tour felt very rushed and we were not allowed time to look around the rooms by ourselves, before we were frogmarched into the next room. Also, the National Trust needs to change their antiquated policy about not allowing photography inside their houses, it is pretty outdated when people like to record their visits on Instagram etc and in other houses, e.g in Houghton you are allowed to snap away. Final niggle, they really need to allow public access to the South terrace. It is the only place you can really see the main facade properly from and yet it is all marked as private with signs telling the public not to climb over the balustrades! I felt that one of the most interesting parts of the house was therefore out of bounds. There is also the usual over-abundance of signs that seems to accompany every National Trust franchise!

Thank you for visiting us and for taking the time to leave a review. We must first point out that Holkham is not a National Trust property, it is a privately owned Estate. This is also the reason why there is no public access to the south terrace - these are the private gardens of the Coke family, owners of the estate, who live inside the Hall. The main facade can be seen from the south park - a huge area of the open parkland offering undoubtedly the best view of the Hall, terraces and fountain. We understand your point on the amount of signage currently in the park and our attractions, however, you will notice that the majority of these are COVID-related and not permanent fixtures. We are sorry that you felt the tour was rushed. Usually, our tours are free-flow and visitors are welcome to spend as much time as they wish in each room. However, in order to be COVID compliant, we had to change the way we operate. We are now offering pre-booked, timed tours to enable us to limit the number of people in the Hall at any one time, as well as allowing enough space for social distancing. We understand it might not be to everybody's taste, but many of our visitors have commented on how they have enjoyed a guided tour compared to free flow, as they have found out some new and interesting facts along the way. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Holkham despite a few niggles and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Wells beach carpark...we travelled in two cars owing to one of our party being disabled. First car admitted to the carpark, second a few minutes later refused despite there being plenty of places and 80% of the disabled spaces being empty. School bully type wardens (not social distancing) utterly deaf to our appeals. We were not the only family broken up by their stupid approach. No effort had been made to utilise the carpark evenly hence queues (distanced and orderly) at the pay stations ( suggest you post instructions as to which buttons to push or go contactless).

A day out ruined by an irrational "we must do something" approach, badly executed. A call to the estate office did get a promise that the matter would be taken higher via radio. But all too late and the promised return call did not materialise.

Really, we are 12 weeks in. You can do better, much better.

We've visited Holkham several times when we've been in the area, but this time we just came for somewhere to have a picnic lunch and a gentle wander about and again were not disappointed on a fairly quiet and sunny Saturday.

To access the grounds costs a £5 parking charge but worth every penny for somewhere with such good and well kept grounds and facilities. I don't grunge paying such fees as I see this as a contribution to the upkeep of the grounds especially in what have been tough times for the tourist industry.

After a lunch enjoyed at one of the tables and benches overlooking the grounds and lake, the kids enjoyed a walk to the lake and around the back of the house where to much excitement spotted some of the ground's deer. Then it was on to the woodland play area where they spend half-an-hour playing letting the adults have a well timed sit down and break.

We didn't visit the house, exhibitions, shop, cafe, wall garden or rope course this time but have done many in the past and all have been worth the admission, maybe next time...

Thank you for your lovely comments and also your understanding about tough times for the tourism industry. We are delighted that you had a lovely summery day with us, and that the deer played their part too. We're looking forward to seeing you again soon.
