A beautiful stone beach. The water is clear. Plenty of picnic areas with grills and stones for skipping in the water. Be aware that there is a $250 fine for taking stones with you, so please leave them there. Some information is displayed. Restrooms available.
We walked the beach, it is very nice. Thought it would be a bit bigger. We didn’t want to swim so only stayed about 15-20 minutes. The sound of the waves crashing was very peaceful. They had a couple informational signs.
What a relaxing way to soak up some sun and enjoy a truly beautiful place, Beach is made up of smooth rocks vs sand...great for skipping on the waters surface. Water looked clean and inviting. A couple of neat photo ops here. No pets allowed.
Water, clear and beautiful shades of blue. Our daughter decided to hold a small wedding ceremony on this beach. The weather held out and it was a beautiful day. Wear shoes, as the rocks are smooth but still helpful to wear. We rented the pavilion...More
If you are going to Washington Island you really need to stop by and see Schoolhouse Beach. The water is very clear and the rocks are smooth. Just don't take any rocks home with you - there is a $250 fine PER ROCK!!!
We visited this beach while we were on a Cherry train tour. It is a nice easy going beach. There are no concessions. There is a place to eat about a mile away or so, we went on our tour of the island. We were...More
Schoolhouse Beach is the one thing in Door County my teenage daughter INSISTS we visit on every trip. It's just stunning. If you come during the high travel season, be prepared to share the beach with many other families. There's plenty of room for everyone,...More
This is our favorite beach on Washington Island. It has clear water and beach is made of perfectly smooth stones. They have a raft that visitors can swim to and nice swimming area when it’s warm. This is a must-see in Door County!
Great beach - beautiful facilities for changing and picinicing...but the beach! The water! If you are unfamiliar with Great Lakes swimming: you will need good sandals that secure tightly - this is a pebble beach. (And warm water if you are used to Lake Superior!)...More

School House Beach is on Washington Island (one of the many things to see on the Island). Just an Fyi... it's considered off-season so a lot of things may be closed. You do need to take the ferry to get to Washington Island, about a 25 minute ride. I would recommend paying the extra and bringing you car. Once on the island it's easy to manuver with an island map. It was a fabulous get-a-way from our getaway!! Two lavender farms/shops, interesting places to eat, a General Store, fishing museum and great views! It was my first time to Door County, definitely not my last!!!
