Stopped at the beach during our day trip to Washington Island. It was November so needless to say there wasn't any swimming involved, but the beach was so neat to see! Definitely want to make it back in summer to enjoy the water!
The water is clear and pristine. Enjoy the rock sculptures people create out of the smooth limestone rocks. Make your own. I just enjoy the quiet and beauty of the area while sitting on the beach. If you like old cemeteries, there is one just...More
This limestone beach is a must-see when visiting Washington Island. We visited on a trolley tour of the island and it is a picturesque beach and one of only a few in the world with limestone instead of sand. Very cool!
Enjoyed seeing this - people build rock sculptures with the smooth rocks that are there - and you can also build your own or add to other's creations. While you are there, go on around the island and visit the museum.
We stopped in to see what the beach looked like while on an island tour. There were lots of rocks, no sand. Stacking rocks is a popular thing to do on the shore. There were places for picnics and cookouts with some grills in the...More
A beautiful stone beach. The water is clear. Plenty of picnic areas with grills and stones for skipping in the water. Be aware that there is a $250 fine for taking stones with you, so please leave them there. Some information is displayed. Restrooms available.
We walked the beach, it is very nice. Thought it would be a bit bigger. We didn’t want to swim so only stayed about 15-20 minutes. The sound of the waves crashing was very peaceful. They had a couple informational signs.
What a relaxing way to soak up some sun and enjoy a truly beautiful place, Beach is made up of smooth rocks vs sand...great for skipping on the waters surface. Water looked clean and inviting. A couple of neat photo ops here. No pets allowed.
Water, clear and beautiful shades of blue. Our daughter decided to hold a small wedding ceremony on this beach. The weather held out and it was a beautiful day. Wear shoes, as the rocks are smooth but still helpful to wear. We rented the pavilion...More

School House Beach is on Washington Island (one of the many things to see on the Island). Just an Fyi... it's considered off-season so a lot of things may be closed. You do need to take the ferry to get to Washington Island, about a 25 minute ride. I would recommend paying the extra and bringing you car. Once on the island it's easy to manuver with an island map. It was a fabulous get-a-way from our getaway!! Two lavender farms/shops, interesting places to eat, a General Store, fishing museum and great views! It was my first time to Door County, definitely not my last!!!
