We read about this on another site about Cody attractions which failed to mention it is focused on the LDS frontier experience rather than the frontier experience in general. We were greeted by a friendly LDS couple who gave a 'brief' explanation (20 min) of the mural which is painted on the ~30' diameter rotuda. To compare it to a Catholic cathedral in Europe is a little liberal. The history was more interesting than the art. We were asked if we were Mormon and offered a Book of Mormon when we indicated we weren't. After the mural tour, they invited us to step into another museum-type room which we declined. Never pressured about becoming LDS.

The mural is all about the mormons journey out west. I was not warned of this and found it very boring, probebly because im not mormon. I found some of the things the guide was saying to be incorrect accourding to any other history book ever.

This is a great short stop but full of a variety of exhibits and attractions and art! I loved the rotunda mural-- it reminded me of some of the great art in Catholic chapels in Europe. It is expansive and breathtaking! I'm amazed that someone can paint like that in such a unique, dome shape and I loved the story of how the mural came together. I loved the collection of artwork and artifacts from the region. Lots of early pioneer settler artifacts. The history of the Big Horn Basin settlement was an additional great aspect of this museum. The dollhouse they had there is also incredible. The tour folks are happy to jump in and answer questions or give a tour or it seemed you could just go through on your own too. This mural and museum is housed in an LDS church but the folks giving the tours were there just to talk about the exhibits. Well worth the time!

Even though I grew up in the Big Horn Basin and had been to Cody hundreds of times, I hadn't been to the see the Cody Mural Historic Site until recently. To say that I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. The mural is beautiful, and I love the story of the artist shared by the couple who welcomed us. The attached museum is also a great place to see items actually used by the pioneers who settled the area. If you're a history buff, into genealogy or just curious about Cody history, I'd definitely add this to your list of places to visit.

I've been to Cody, WY many times, but had never taken the time to visit this historic site. I'm glad I did because the rotunda and history here is quite impressive, plus they have an original copy of the Book of Mormon. What great history! The rotunda is beautiful and the story painted is beautiful. The museum also has beautiful bronze statues throughout that are great standout pieces! I recommend a stop if you can!

Just arrived in Cody and had some time to check out the area. What a wonderful find. The Elder's of the church give you a background history of the mural and the artist but then they take you into the rotunda. Stunning. Then you can have a 7-minute audio which talks about and highlights the different pictures on the mural. Very well done. From there if you choose you can go into the tiny museum and learn more about the history. This also has a 7-minute video about the Mormon pioneers coming to the area and building a 30 mile canal that is still in use today. Very well done.

Upon entering the Mormon church we were greeted and given a synopsis of what we were about to see. We were escorted to a round room and watched a short video explaining the many parts and story of the inspiring ceiling mural. There’s also a second room with quality art.

It is part of a Mormon church and it is beautiful. People who give tour are very nice. It takes about 30 minutes at the most but it is beautiful. Mural give the history of the Mormons and how they travel to their settling place and what they did in the area I would go there again.

I have seen the Mural a couple of times in the past and was very pleased with the update of the narration. Outstanding! I also thought that the addition of the Museum was terrific. I was not aware that this area had been settled by Mormon Pioneers and enjoyed the displays about the settling. I was pleased to notice that there is quite a bit of publicity about this place around town and in magazines! Everyone should view this!
