We stayed in Rock Springs for a soccer tourney and had an afternoon to explore. The start of Flaming Gorge is just south of both Rock Springs and Green River. The north side of Family Gorge is is still in part of the Red Desert...More

The gorge was pretty. I would recommend it for someone headed to Dinosaur National Park, but I would not make a special trip to visit it.

Drove from dinosaur national monument to Rock Springs via 191. Hands down the scariest road I have ever driven. Okay I realize I am not used to mountains like this but once I crossed that Flaming Gorge Dam and saw that sketchy road clinging to...More

Have done a 3000 mile road trip and the vast majority of it has been far more scenic than this, even when there has been no specific designation. Driving from Rock Springs there is a Scenic turnout early on in the drive but from there,...More

This is a great place to see geological phenomena and natural history. high desert and large water areas. Natural areas with wildlife viewing. Great place to camp out for quiet and away from it all.

I worked in the region about 20 years ago and I wanted my family to see this area. The views are interesting; the road is well-maintained. It is very likely you will see antelope in the region especially at Antelope Flat. Nice, peaceful drive. If...More

Simply amazing. It DOES get a little windy but it’s livable. This campsite is 10 miles off the main road and another 10 miles off of 191. All well paved roads. Camping tent and RV welcomed just no water or electric but it’s amazing.

Theres a lengthy drive out to get to the view of the gorge but boy is it worth it. The road up gets abit windey but the view is excellent. You can drive all way round but the west side gives best views.

The visitor center has one of the absolute best views in the world. I expect the view from the river is even better, but have not checked it out from below. Hopefully, soon.

It was hazy when we were driving through from Green River, WY, but you could tell the mountains/cliffs were beautiful. The oasis/reservoir was a nice change from the desert.

Both sides of the Flaming Gorge offer great views, it's hard to recommend east or west. The best might be to do a round tour in order to see all overviews.
