This was a great place to take my teens as well as amazing pictures. Though you do it at your own risk, a few locals told us we could walk down to the booking pots which we did. My kids were not disappointed - what we thought would be a quick trip we ended up staying about an hour. Make sure you where shoes with grip on the bottom. This was truly one if my favorite places more because of how much teens reacted. You won’t be disappointed if you are a bit if a risk taker and walk down the beaten path.

We came here after the Rainbow Falls area. Plenty of parking and easy walk to the viewing platform. Pe'epe'e Falls can be seen beyond the lush fiolage.

Boiling Pots is part of a series of water cascading drops and then a large whirlpool that creates the "pots" When we visited in mid April, quite a bit of raging water action so the pots are a bit muddy. Quite amazing.

The area/park is located in a residential area with narrow roads. Travel with low speed and caution. Definitely worth the time, do it together with Rainbow Falls. Both places are free.

We stopped here on our way from the Kona side to Volcanoes National Park. This was a convenient and quick place for a potty break as it has restrooms and free parking. The Boiling Pots are a flat, 1-minute walk from the parking lot to the overlook. The sight was okay. I mean, it was a river with a few circular indents. Maybe there's great hiking, but from the overlook, it was literally a 3-minute "OK, I've seen it" type of stop.

Just a little ways up the road from Rainbow Falls, the Boiling Pots is also part of the Wailuku River State Park complex. This is another quick stop - a good place to stretch your legs - and it's free!

As with Rainbow Falls, there is a short hike up to the overlook with placards describing the history of the Wailuku River. The view is worth the short walk, but that's about all there is to do here. If you're short on time and you're choosing between Rainbow Falls and Boiling Pots, go to Rainbow Falls.

I live on the big island and have friends who live up the street. It’s beautiful to view especially after a storm when it’s raging. HOWEVER it’s illegal to swim in. As I write this they are searching for a drowning victim since yesterday afternoon.

There is a handicap accessible overlook. The best time to view the boiling pots is immediately following rain, as the Russian water creates the “boiling effects”. There is ample free parking, a grassy area for picnics, and a restroom.

Water comes over some rocks, rapids, falls whatever, and falls into pools eroded over time. The water naturally is turbulent and some people thing it looks like boiling. Of course there is a legend to go with it. Maybe impressive right after a strong rain, but for us rather dull. Close to Hilo, a couple miles up form Rainbow Falls.

It's quick and easy suburban drive from Hilo to Rainbow Falls & Boiling Pots lookouts. There is no admission fee and Rainbow Falls has a lovely picnic area. Great for a short stroll and photo-op.
