My husband and I were not impressed by the Akaka Falls. Giving the experience 3 stars is very generous. 2.5 is more realistic. Overall, the approach to the falls, parking felt like we were in a third world country. The view of the falls and the falls were very underwhelming. The photo on TripAdvisor looks much better than the real thing.

Beautiful tropical rainforest with view of a lovely waterfall - taller than Niagara at 422ft but much narrower! The walk is on a paved route but there are lots of steps but take it easy and it’s a nice easy trek. The car park costs $10 but you can park outside the yellow barrier and it’s free. It’s $5 per person - no cash as you get a ticket from a machine but there were plenty of people to help. Has toilets.

There’s a walking path to get to the falls. The waterfall is huge and beautiful to see. After viewing, you turn around and hike back. There are restrooms in the parking area. Supposedly there is another trail and waterfall viewing area, but that path was closed while we were there. Bring a poncho. It rains often and was raining while we were there.

The hike to the falls is an East up & down walk through gorgeous rainforest. The falls are impressive…but vegetation in front of the viewing area prevents seeing the bottom portion of the falls. Still it is well worth the time.
Recommended.

Drove all the way here to be greeted by a man sitting in a car to tell us the park is only open on the weekends. We were there on a Tuesday. Signs before the dead end road would be nice.

My family and I stopped here and hiked to the falls. Half of the trail is closed right now so I feel that this makes the hike a little more challenging because of the out and back nature of the trail. While it was cool to see in person, I wouldn’t say this is something you absolutely must see, we were there for maybe 45 minutes to an hour and while the hike is only a little difficult it’s not super pretty.

This pace was obviously very beautiful but be forewarned that it is quite a hike with LOTS of stairs. If you have an injury, it will be difficult. Not impossible as I did it with a hurt knee but I wish I would have known this ahead of time.

This review is for people over 65, you should not attemp this unless you are in top shape. We tried it, we are 81 and had a terrible time . The pictures do not show how steep the stairs are. The stairs and railings are wet and slippery all the way down and back. when we were there they had two people that needed medical assistance, one that probly went to the hospital?

When you arrive you can park in their lot for $10 or you can park just outside gate for free. There are helpful attendants there to let you know how to pay for entertainment ($5 per person) and where to go regarding construction. The path is paved but it’s not wheelchair or stroller friendly. There are handrails throughout the beautiful forest and many points to stop for photos. There is one small waterfall from a distance and you can see the Akaka fallls from across the valley due to construction closure at this time. In this area there was a shelter with benches if you needed a rest before you hiked back uphill.
