South point is definitely worth the trip. 10-12 miles off the highway with decent roads and places to park. Scenery is breathtaking. Lots of trails for hiking and even driving (4 wheel drive highly recommended.) Some local fisherman and divers around but had no problem with them. Didn't have time to see green sand beach. We drove over there to... More

Clear water, sandy bottom, beautiful view. You can hike which is about 6-8 miles round trip. (Depending on how straight of a walk you take, as there are many winding trails that lead to the beach). If you don't feel like hiking, there are rides available via the back of a truck. I would recommend taking the hike. It is... More

Some Hawaiians don’t like to consider Hawaii a part of the United States, but if you do, then this is the farthest south you can possibly go. You won’t find many people here as it’s very much off the beaten path and a long drive from any touristed areas. However, if you’re coming to visit the Green Sand Beach, this... More

Two part review - First, South Point: It's the southernmost point of Hawaii which makes it the southernmost point of the US. It's an easy albeit seemingly endless drive to get here. Roads are paved all the way but there are some pretty narrow areas so be careful and don't go too fast. There's room on the sides to avoid... More

It is a very long hike to the Green Beach. The beach is beautiful. There are locals that will drive you and allow you to stay 30 min. We heard several different prices that they charge. Make sure you take plenty of water and some snacks.

This was what my daughter really wanted to do on the Big Island. We got a ride for $15.00 per person and I think it was worth it. My mom would have had a hard time getting there and back. The beating that those vehicles take is worth the money. We rode with an 11 year old that had been... More

This was a must-see for me, but your GPS won't get you there. It will get you to the parking lot, but from there you will have to pay too much for one of the locals to shuttle you to the beach. Otherwise you will need a four-wheel-drive and some luck. There is a veritable maze of trails leading out... More

Take the SouthPoint turn off of highway 11. Travel 8 miles and stay left at the fork . There is a parking area and the choice to pay $15 for a ride on the back of a pickup there and back. We hiked in the 2.5 miles on flat and rolling terrain. It is easy to find your way as... More

You have white and black sand beaches around the world, but there are only two green sand beaches. So, take the chance and visit Papakōlea Green Sand Beach! There's a small parking lot. Park there and don't try to drive to the beach with your rental 4x4. You can walk or drive the 2-3 miles with a local. They offer... More

We hit this beach on our way to the southernmost point in the US and it was beautiful. Nestled down beneath some cliffs it is not the easiest place to get to. There is a moderate walk 2-3 miles in hot conditions past coastline littered with a disgusting amount of plastic as well as a very steep descent down the... More
