We are staying near Pahoa on the east side of the island. Looking for a beach to take a 4 year old. Ended up here earlier today. Beautiful park. It is really a boat ramp and we were lucky enough to see boats come in....More

Pull off the road ..Watch the waves break along the ragged edge of the volcanic cliffs. Picnic tables, grill, and bathrooms. Good fishing spot. It is a local night time hangout so be responsible to the land and culture.

We happened on this park while driving to the end of Hwy 137. There was boat launching. Swimming. Surfing, picnicking. River shoes important in that much lava and uneven surfaces. It didn't appear that surfing was too good - small waves .

This a a clean park with nice views, buts it's primary purpose is its boat ramp, so don't be misled by its title. There were people swimming there, but to me there were better places close by your swim of you wanted to. Great boat...More

Great snorkeling beach with picnic and bathroom facilities. The parking lot is large. There are short hikes in the area. This is where you can pick up a boat to ride out to where the lava flows into the ocean. Fascinating.

Great hangout spot! The shaved ice lady is AMAZING! Her shaved ice flavors are awesome. There's a little black cat that hangs out in the parking lot. Bring him a little something, as I'm sure he lives there.

There is a guarded beach here but the water was too rough for swimming. The surfers certainty enjoyed themselves. In another part of the park is a boat ramp. To its right is a NO SWIMMING sign that is totally ignored. Adults and children dived...More

We went here to pick up our "Lava Boat" tour (Excellent by the way) Lots of parking, used the bathroom facilities which were basic, but clean. Lots of people hanging out with kids and smoking dope, but I think they were harmless. I would not...More

We stopped for a few minutes to see if there was a swim beach. Sadly no but got to watch a bunch of surfers and body boarders operate in high surf conditions. There were people swimming in the boat ramp area clearly marked "no Swimming"...More

It is HAIL. The park is named after a person.
