Great Combination of Horticulture and Hawaiian Culture :(

This is a great experience. If you have any interest in the native jungles of Hawai and archeological exploration this is a cool place.

They do good work there in perpetuating existing and almost extinct plants. It was an interesting walkabout.

So much more than I expected. The grounds are impeccable, the information abounds and their love for this beautiful island is evident everywhere. If you go, wear sneakers and pants. I wore a dress and flip flops . . . That was a mistake. The trails are lush and it just transports you to another time. Highly recommend it.

We are traveling on a budget and decided to go to this place as it was the cheapest of the National Botanical Garden sites on Kaua'i, and also because of its focus on native and endemic plants. The self-guided tour was plenty informative and comes with a booklet so you can look stuff up later if you forget. We learned... More

We come to Kauai often and never tire of revisiting Limahuli, where the trails take you past dramatic rushing streams, gorgeous flowers and trees, spectacular elevated views of the ocean, and a reconstructed sustainable way of life lived on Kauai long before sustainability became fashionable on the U. S. mainland.

This is a combination of things wrapped around a beautiful walk. 3/4 of a mile over up and down terrain but not to strenuous . The guide book is marvelous with easy to read stories, histories and explanations at every stopping point. The views are amazing. Took us 1 hour and 15 minutes with 4 stops on benches placed strategically... More

Limahuli Garden is a glimpse of Hawaiian history and botany. It has a great tour of a diverse set of botanical resources available to the original Polynesians as well plants introduced after the discovery of the island by Capt. Cook. It is a nice walk and offers good views of the west end of the North Shore of Kauai. Recommended.

Despite annually travelling back and forth to Kauai for the last 16 years this was our first visit here! Worth the wait as it was stunningly beautiful. A perfect weather day made our visit even more pleasurable. Situated right under Mt. Makana (Bali Hai) the gardens offered fabulous photo opportunities of the flowers and plants with a mountain backdrop. The... More

Really nice staff, sweet personality and attitude. Was impressed by the number of rate plants. Not as well kept or financed as the Nai gardens just south of lighthouse, but those are privately financed, not public, it appears. Trail is uphill, then downhill, not for those with mobility issues. Well worth seeing. The booklet that comes with entrance is really... More

Long self-guided walk through gardens structured to show how Polynesians brought plants to the islands, what's was introduced, and the difficulties in preserving (or rather trying to restore) indigenous and endemic plants. Some uphill walking and gentle stairs are involved. The garden's at the back of beyond, but the drive itself is instructive.
