March 17, 2023 - Fun way to spend a couple of hours, many food vendors + food trucks. Wish all artists' galleries/workspaces were open but some were not. Farmer's market so got some apple bananas, sugarloaf pineapple and limes, snagged a loaf of sourdough bread from Midnight Bear Breads for sandwiches, etc.

Nice collection of local artisans and local food trucks. A little haphazardly put together with no traffic control, watch your step crossing the street!

Historic Downtown Hanapepe seems to intentionally try to preserve its somewhat run down historic past. Having visited Kauai several times, we had never been to the Friday Night Art Walk. We were very pleased with the quality and variety of art studios/stores and artists. The web site for the Art Night is poorly maintained and is not at all helpful and does not seem to be maintained or updated. We were hoping to sample from what elsewhere had been billed as a good place to try different food truck offerings. There were a few food trucks or tents, but the selection was very limited and we decided to eat elsewhere. The few restaurants in town were full with long wait times.

I visited the Friday Night Art Market on 9/23/22 by public transit and it was a short walk from the highway to the main street in Hanapepe. Its a fun little thing but particularly if you are looking for beautiful authentic Hawaiian aloha shirts go see Arnie's set up at the entrance to "The Swinging Bridge". He had about 300 or so displayed on racks all in excellent condition and different sizes. What a nice gift to bring home to your friends and family. Tell him Eddie sent you and maybe you can work out a deal because he loves to deal. Fast talker with a fun sense of humor too!

Old town, calm, lots of street vendors, music, art, fruit, and easy access to the Hanapepe Swinging Bridge. We enjoyed a casual evening.

Finding a place to park is the most challenging part, but it was not as difficult as we thought. First thing we saw was a double rainbow - what a great start! Lots of local vendors with jewelry, clothing, art, wood art, fresh fruits. Most of the stores were also open. There were plenty of food vendors as well, and we tried a little from several places. We thought the prices were very reasonable, and the food was delicious. This was the first night we were in Hawaii, and made lots of memories!

I have been to art night almost every time I have vacationed on Kauai. I enjoy the stores and vendors. But it’s really difficult to enjoy the food and drink when THERE ARE NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS. This time there were 2 porta potties that were disgusting. There must be rules about festivals having a certain amount of clean facilities.

The Friday night festival has still not come back fully from the Covid shutdown-although it seems to be moving in that direction. A number of stores and galleries are open and there was live music but the crowds have not really returned. It’s still worth checking out and the small town is charming.

Only a few stores/places open. This was in May 2022. Might have been great some time ago but very limited placed to go and see things that were open. The stores that were closed looked great.

As of 4/1/22, the art walk is not back to its former glory, talking to the vendors sounds like it might still be a few months. There was a great group of musical performers at the theater. Grandmas Japanese Kitchen and Popos cookies were the only food options open.
A lot of the galleries were open, as was the bookstore and they were all great, just make sure you’re coming in with the right expectations.

What time should we plan to arrive? We are visiting next month and this is something we haven't done before. Thanks!

I agree that arriving early makes finding parking a bit easier, but I went around 6:30pm and still was able to find a spot without too much trouble. So if you can get there earlier, great, but if you’re doing something fun that runs over, don’t sweat, it’s island time!

You are not prevented from driving down the street. But the crowds make it a slow journey.

I have experienced sea sickness on open water and I haven't figured out what does or does not predict this . Do you typically deal with this on this type of trip/ boat , and which package would be more suitable? Does the trip have long intervals of boat with shorter stops, or is it long stops to snorkel, and shorter boating time? I would hate to get stuck if I get sick. Do you suggest anything to take/ prep to calm this affliction?

Assume you are talking about the Holo Holo Charter rather than the Hanapepe Art Show...the trip to Niihau and Lehua Rock (where the snorkeling actually is) takes about an hour from Port Allen. The boat is a catamaran, so not too much rocking on the open ocean, but depends on the weather. It was quite smooth when we went, so nobody was seasick. Dramamine or the patch helps some people...we often use it on longer ocean cruises for the 1st day or so. On Holo Holo the Captain gives good advice in the safety briefing...stay outside, focus on the horizon and distant objects, etc.

I'm interested to know if Dawn Traina Gallery is still open and active. Website or phone or e-mail would be great!
