Exploring KAUAI BY KAYAK since 1977 For years, Island Adventures has introduced visitors and Kama'ainas (residents), to the magic of the Hule'ia River and it's 241 acres of National Wildlife Refuge. More recently, the owners of this small company set out to improve on what was already known to our visitor industry professionals as one of the very best kayak trips on Kauai. "We set out in search of an elusive waterfall that existed only in the memories of a handful of long time Kauai locals. Because of the thick jungle growth, an aerial survey of the area was fruitless. This search for a secret waterfall was to send us on a mission, through thick tangled jungle with no cut trails. After several difficult trips into the valley we were rewarded with the sound of rushing waters. Still, dense vegetation made it impossible to get a close look. We could hear it but couldn't see it" It took two more attempts for the Island Adventures crew of explorers to make their most exciting discovery. After rappelling down a cliff to the river below, the found not one, but two treasures: Jungle Waterfalls, the tallest one was over 50' high. A whole year and a half later, a trail had been mapped and cut. Now you don't havce to be Tarzan to enjoy this very special place, which has become the main destination of Island Adventures latest tours. "This Ain't No Zipline" and "Hawaiian Dundee".

First of all, let me say, from a purely emotional perspective, the Hawaiian Dundee Waterfall Rappel was an awesome experience. The guides and other group members were friendly and supportive (one of the instructors, Guy, was especially memorable) and I came away feeling very empowered...More

The people and especially the big guy are beyond rude. They don't want you there just your money. It takes forever in the hot sun and very little fun.

The training and attention to safety concerns were outstanding. Enjoyed the guides personalities, especially that of Tonya. They put you through verbal instructional training and a practice training on a dirt/rock embankment. When I saw the 60 foot waterfall, I knew rappelling it was doable...More

We had a lot of fun on this tour. The kayaking was reasonably easy, and the guide was helpful with tips. Our guide was Tanya. She had some good information on plant species. The waterfall was beautiful AND you can climb it with ropes, which...More

Went kayaking up a 2.5 mile river adventure. This is a physical trip. You have to paddle yourself so take that into account if you're considering this trip. At the end of our trip, there was a flash flood, so the guides parked us on...More

This is a great thing to do in Kauai. The guides are excellent, they are patient, you get good training, and I was thoroughly pleased by the entire adventure. I think this is far superior to a zip line (which I've only done once) because...More

The hike is "down" to the falls. Once you're at the small one, it's almost a level stroll to the base of the larger one with just one small incline. The real climb is on the way back out as you switchback your way up to the... More
