NTBG’s Allerton Garden Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

Really beautiful tropical gardens with lots of waterscapes, fountains throughout. Took the best picture of my whole trip at this garden. We went on the Sunset tour and got to tour th house too. Dinner was Hula Chicken (shredded), rice, coleslaw, pineapple with soft drinks, can't beat the view from the screened porch. The outdoor rooms were a little different... More

Allerton is a privately owned, trust maintained garden. It contains rooms, modeled after European gardens. Don't just go for the Jurassic trees! Matt was our guide - he allowed us to take our time and experience the beauty of garden.

We took a limo bus to the park, and then transferred to a park bus with a guide. He gave us a very nice overview of the garden and the history, then we drove on a single lane gravel road down into the property. Great stories about movies filmed mixed in with various details on the plants and fountains in... More

Great location to see the variety of tropical botanical. Nicely laid out as a botanical garden but does cost money.

Kauai has several good choices for garden tours and I'd recommend putting this one at the top. It's a bit expensive and requires advanced reservations but the guide was involved and present and the grounds are simply amazing. Takes about three hours and does not get boring. Oh, and be sure to take mosquito repellant. Recommend.

Beautiful gardens where you can wander at will. Many specimens are identified which is helpful. It can be quite warm, so wear sturdy shoes and bring lots of water.

I went on this tour because others in my party wanted to see the gardens, I wasn't particularly interested - that is until we actually started walking through the different rooms in the garden. We did the dinner tour, which also walks you through the house and you have a catered dinner at the house. I would highly recommend this.... More

and our guide was so knowledgeable. Enjoyed the entire experience but I would be careful with young children and with people with limited mobility. The walk is long, mostly shaded though.

We partook of the guided tour of the garden and it was tremendous in terms of the visual as well as learning experience. Terrific guide gave not only information on the flora but also the rich history of this place plus insights and trivia into what went during during the many films shot here. Part of the National Botanical Gardens... More
